A unique Ukrainian Sturmvogel dieselpunk

Beyond what we thinking, that the characteristics of a custom motorcycle. What do you think about a café racer? Classic look? What you will see is a very different thing. It is a café racer which is inspired by the Sturmvogel variant. The plurals, Sturmvogel is the ground-attack version of the WWII Messerschmitt Me-262 jet fighter.

Influenced by UNESCO site 'Gosprom' (Kharkov, Ukraine) – a real building resembling those from a classic dieselpunk movie 'Metropolis'. This is the first motorcycle from Ukraine, who cashed 3rd-place Freestyle class Italian Motorcycles Championat, 4th-place Street perfomance Class World Championship of Custom Bike Building.

According to Yaroslav Luritskyi, that he wanted to create a motorcycle-style Dieselpunk with a high specification. What’s the the cool stuff? Motorcycle has a bodywork handcrafted by his team. it is a single piece, which contains all the controls, electrical, tank. They also changed the frame and suspension.

According Grangsang Setya Ramadhani, one of the students who participated in this project, the car was named Lowo Ireng (Black Bat). Grangsang also not denied that the Batman's car that inspired him and his friends to create this unique car.

"Hence, we also call it as Lowo Ireng when first made in early 2014," said Grangsang to VIVA.co.id in the workshop of the National Electric Motors, ITS, Surabaya on May 23, 2016.

Grangsang revealed, the car can go up to speeds of 180 kilometers per hour. In addition, this car can achieve acceleration from 0 to 100 km per hour in just 10 seconds. According to him, it is fairly quick for a supercar made in Indonesia.

"The secret of its speed is on a machine that uses a V6 engine, and carbonate materials that we use in the car body, so his car into a lightweight but strong," said Grangsang.

It has been proven in several trials that have been undertaken by Lowo Ireng. In fact, Lowo Ireng also considered successfully completed the Tour de Java in 2014. Meanwhile, the fuel used for this car is RON 92 petrol or in Indonesia called Pertamax.

Other members of the team that the car maker, Hanif Taufik said the hardest part of the making of the car it is time to make the car body. The reason is, there are indentations in the car body was somewhat complicated, and must detail and took a long time. "Because it's all handmade," said Hanif.

When asked about their desire to make the car massively, Hanif answered when he and his friends still do not have that desire. However, the car was already getting offers from several parties.

"There were alumnies of ITS own, and the automotive expo visitors who saw this car, and the offer price of Rp.400 million (US. $29,704) to order similar car," said Hanif.
In the future, Hanif still have the desire to continue to develop the car. Lowo Ireng supercar is expected to be one to be reckoned with. "We are fully aware that the automotive world is always evolving rapidly, so we also want the Lowo Ireng able to compete with other cars," said Hanif. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | VIVA.CO.ID]

The simplicity concept of R 5 Hommage was revealed

BMW Motorrad is present in a luxury car exhibition named Concorso d'Elegance Villa d'Este on Lake Como, Italy with the figure of a classic bobber style motorcycle, BMW R 5 Hommage.

Its construction looks simple with the reference of 1930s BMW R 5 racing style bike that uses 500 cc engine to mark the company's 80th anniversary. But arguably, one of the most exciting aspects of R 5 is simplicity in both form and function. This simplicity has greatly influenced R 5 Hommage.

Head of Design BMW Motorrad, Edgar Heinrich, said, "To this day, R 5 remains one of the most exciting motorcycles in the BMW's history in my view."

Ola Stenegard, Head of Vehicle Design and Creative Director BMW Motorrad Heritage said, "In my opinion, interesting beauty and unique lies in its simplicity. In today's world is very simple to remain complicated, but it is very complicated to keep it simple. And the BMW R 5 captures the essence of a motorcycle."

The engine used by R 5 Hommage has an interesting story of its own as it is really used in the race and suffered damage. Its 500 cc boxer engine supplied by Sebastian Gutsch, a motorcycle enthusiasts who could touch the speed of 135 km/h. This was coupled with a supercharged device that would take it as the incarnation of racing motorbike in the present era.
While Ronny and Benny Noren of the Noren Borthers workshop donated many custom devices of the body parts. The contemporary design also carry a distinctive pure handmade character of R 5 into the modern era that is truly unique.

Scientists managed to make a transparent wood

As far as the climate change worsening make innovations on objects made of environmentally friendly materials intensified. Previously we had been discussed about the transparent aluminum technology, so on this occasion will be discussed about the  transparent wood.

Although the technology has advanced, the wood is still one of the most popular materials for building materials. Therefore, the wood is cheap, strong and can be updated. Now, scientists are finding new ways to increase the value-added of wood.
Transparent wood material can be used as a replacement for glass. (Picture from: http://adf.ly/1akg5l)
That is what makes a group of scientists from the University of Marland managed to find a new breakthrough. They have just created a glass-like transparent wood. The form is transparent and the material that is stronger than usual wood, make it described as the replacing materials of glass in the future.
To create the transparent wood, researchers chemically removed lignin from wood. (Picture from: http://adf.ly/1akg4Q)
The glass-like  transparent wood is made by two major steps. First, by removing all content of lignin (a natural fiber found in wood) chemically. Lignin is found in the cell walls of the wood material. This step is similar to the way that is done by the paper manufacturer. The lignin removal process made the wood looks white, but does not make it transparent or opaque. Therefore, the wood itself is holding a light.
Materials scientist Liangbing Hu and his team at the University of Maryland, removed the molecule in wood lignin that makes it rigid and dark in color. (Picture from: http://adf.ly/1akg4Q)
Second, to make it transparent, the wood from the previous process need to be added with the prepolymerized methyl methacrylate (PMMA). With the polymer, the team managed to change the refractive index so as to obtain a light transmission up to 85 percent. However, the addition of these polymers still able to maintain the wooden structure as original properties.

"Fiber alcove carved on the walls of xylem make it into a solid. For the first time we can keep the wood structure and making it transparent and simultaneously strengthen it," said Dr Liangbing Hu of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Maryland, as reported by the Daily Mail.

Interestingly, although made of wood, apparently the nature of the material has been changed. If the wood is usually known as an insulator material or could not send the heat and electricity well, but the transparent wood material is vice versa. It even has the capability of transmitting electricity and heat well so that it can be used in the electrical applications such as solar cells.

"The windows are made of glass becomes a major problem in the summer and winter, they have poorly capability of thermal insulation. If using the transparent wood, the amount of light absorbed will be higher and the efficiency increased to 30 percent," added Dr. Liangbing Hu.
Researchers from KTH Royal Institute of Technology have developed a transparent wood material that could change the way we construct buildings and solar panels. To create the transparent wood, researchers chemically removed lignin from samples of commercial balsa wood and added acrylic. (Picture from: http://adf.ly/1akg4Q)
Something similar had previously been carried out by a group of scientists in Sweden that succeeded to process the wood becomes transparent and  also can serve as solar cells. "Transparent wood is a good material for solar cells because the material cost is cheap and comes from renewable resources," said the lead researcher Lars Berglund from KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm.

Long before the wood-based material has been made transparent like what was done by these scientists. Wood has been used for material for computer chips. "Previously no one is making a transparent wood material to something bigger such as a building or solar cells," he said.

Not only used for solar cells. The transparent wood can also be used to create windows that are stronger than glass. If used for solar cells, this material could replace silica-based glass material. Silica still let a lot of light to pass through. Now, the team is working to boost porses manufacturing to ensure the process is inexpensive and can be used in bulk. The research is published in the Biomacromolecular journal. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | DAILY MAIL]

The US military was trying to make the stealth motorcycles

The US military is currently preparing the motorcycles that will be used as a means of transport with a future stealth technology specifically for the army, and can run with the electricity, gasoline up to the olive oil.

The US military reesearch institute named Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency or DARPA has demonstrated the project results which have supported and funded by them to create the next generation of stealth motorcycles. The motorcycles was SilentHawk made by Logos Technologies and Nightmare by LSA Autonomy both have been funded by this institution.

Two prototypes of advanced motorcycle has been performed at Special Operations Industry Conference in Tampa, Florida, USA, which was organized by the US National Defense Industrial Association. Both motorcycles have advanced features the hybrid engine with multi-fuel that can accept a variety of fuels ranging from jet fuel up to olive oil.
"If it was gasoline, said that gasoline, or say something else. It will be understood," said Alex Dzwill, engineers from the Logos Technologies, as told the Defence One page is quoted by the Daily Mail, Wednesday, May 25, 2016. When asked if you can run other fuels, such as olive oil, he replied: "Theoretically, yes," said Dzwill.

This motorcycle has two modes, 'normal or noisy mode,' and the 'silent mode' that switch the bikes to operate with battery power. This noisy mode has sound of 80 decibels is similar to the sound of vaccum cleaner, while the silent mode has sound of 55 decibels, equal to the conversation in the room. For normal operation, the bike will be fueled by diesel, gasoline or jet fuel. But when approaching the enemy area, the motorcycle will run almost silently with electric power.
