15-years old Canadian boy discovers forgotten Mayan city

15-year old Canadian boy named William Gadoury said to have discovered an ancient Mayan city that had been forgotten in Central America. The boy who come from Quebec believes that he has found the city of Mayan by using their ancient astronomy through satellite photos. The Mayan city discovered by the Canadian teenager is located right by the star in the constellation recognized by the Mayan civilization.

From these data, then he develops the theory that the Mayan nation choose a location for the city's development depends on the location of the star. Similarly, as reported by the Metro on Tuesday, May 10, 2016.

The ancient city was named K'aak Chi or Mouth of Fire by William. The city is one of five major cities in the Maya culture. Once upon a time, the city is thought to have a 86-meter-high pyramid, and has about 30 buildings.

According to William, he was aware of the location of the forgotten city easily, by identifying the lost city of the constellation of three stars and then match it with the Canadian Space Agency satellite photos. William then compare the region by using Google Earth. Related to this, William will present his findings at the Brazil’s International Science Fair.
The square outline is believed to be man-made structures beneath vegetation. (Picture from: http://adf.ly/1aDMxM)
The Canadian Space Agency spokesperson Daniel De Lisle, said overgrown vegetation in the area made it extremely hard to study on ground level. Which could be a major contributing factor to why the city has remained lost for so long. But scans of the area via satellite have revealed linear features distinctive enough to suggest it’s a manmade structure.

The findings are doubted by the experts
However, there is a problem. Some archaeologists and anthropologists questioned the claims of William Gadoury. The square seen in satellite images, they said, may not be a pyramid, but could have been an ancient corn fields.

One expert critics is David Stuart, a professor of Mesoamerican Art and Writing at the University of Texas at Austin. "The latest news is wrong. I tried to ignore it (and questions from the media that I received), but now I feel I should say something," Stuart said in his Facebook post.

"Ancient Mayans did not organize the construction of their cities based on the constellations. Seeing this pattern is a Rorschach process, because ancient sites anywhere, as well as a star," he continued.

"Square features found in Google Earth are man-made, but it was only an ancient corn fields, or Milpa (fields from the open forest)," explained Stuart.

In his next posting, Stuar said, "I do not want to criticize teenage boy mentioned in the news. He was very intelligent and keen on archeology and Mayan culture. What makes me furious here is the 'expert' irresponsible want to appear in the media".

The opinion of Professor Stuart supported by Thomas Garrison, an assistant professor of anthropology at the University of Southern California.

"I commend the efforts of the teenagers. However, in this case, a square shape and a secondary crop growing in it is evidence that was an ancient Milpa. I estimate that had been cultivated for 10 to 15 years. This is obviously done by people who have stayed in the Maya lowlands," Thomas told Gizmodo.

Ivan Šprajc, a Slovenian archaeologist who once roamed the Yucatan jungle to search for the ancient Maya cities also doubted the findings. He also denied the theory that the Maya built their city in accordance with the star constellations.

The Maya is a great astronomer, he said. However, only a few constellations that found by Mayan people. In fact, in this case, we do not know how many and which of the stars that form the constellation respectively.

However, an expert from Canada who support the finding of William Gadoury submited a rebuttal. Dr. Armand LaRocque from Remote Sensing Laboratory at the University of New Brunswick, said that they doubted the findings of William was analyzed a different photo. William, said Armand, is not based on a set of photos analyzed by experts earlier.

Many people would agree that the best way to prove these findings, whether the Mayan city or the cornfield is by going into the woods. However, according to Armand, it will cost a lot.. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | METRO | GIZMODO]

The quietest Ferrari 308 in the world

Ferrari may have said will never produce an electric car. But Ferrari can not forbid if there are companies that modify an Italian supercar into an electric car. That is done by an American company named Electric GT.

California-based company that worked on the development of electric cars have succeeded in turning a Ferrari 308 GTS which was originally used a conventional engine into an electric car that uses electric motors. And finally Ferrari's distinctive fierce roar was gone and replaced with a smooth whispered sound and barely audible.

As quoted from CNN, the electric car was built on the basic of 1978 Ferrari 308 GTS which is said by the Electric GT boss, Eric Hutchison, as 'a wrecks that found in San Diego'. Actually, the Ferrari 308 GTS using a V8 engine.

Ferrari 308 GTS also ever has glorious periods, one of which is became Tom Selleck's car in the famous 1980s television series 'Magnum PI.' This car was purchased by the Electric GT for US. $10,000 or approximately Rp.113 million. Then how the process of modification of an old Ferrari car becoming an electric car?

There are two main components to the electric-powered Ferrari car that made by Electric GT, ie three units of electric motors AC51 HPEVS and a series of battery-powered 30 kWh. Eric Hutchison and his co-creator Michael Bream who are the expert in the restoration of electric car, started by removing the V8 engine and a Weber carburetor and then replace it with the electric motors.

Then the car was pinned with three batteries at once. Two batteries in an L-shaped configuration where the gas tanks used to sit, while the other battery is in the front of the car. Those three batteries could deliver 30 kWh of power to a 2,000-amp triple electric motor located where the V8 engine was housed and able to make the car run up to 160 km.

To improve the efficiency and performance of the car, then they install 5-speed manual gearbox system that taken from Porsche G50 5. This is done to keep the Ferrari's identity as a supercar.
With the modification time almost 1.5 years, finally Electric GT could make the electric motors capable of spraying the power up to 465 horsepower and torque of 447 Nm, and it is a greater figures than those produced by the standard version of the Ferrari 308 GTS. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | CNN]

It turned out, the electric and hybrid cars as dirty as diesels

The latest findings of the researchers from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland was quite surprising. The experts concluded that the electric and hybrid cars produces toxicity which is almost equal to the emissions produced by diesel-engined cars.

The toxins produced of the works of the vehicle tires and brakes. As is known, electric and hybrid cars have heavier weighs than conventional vehicles. When the car is accelerating or decelerating, the tires and brakes will work extra. That's when the brake release very fine dust particles into the air. The amount of dust particles in the environment-friendly vehicles more than the conventional engine vehicles.
Scientists have found that the electric, hybrid and other eco-friendly cars fill the air with as many toxins as dirty diesel vehicles. (Picture from: http://adf.ly/1aDKtI)
Jonathan Leake, one of the researchers who involved on the study explained  in the Atmospheric Environment journal, as quoted by Daily Mail on Monday, May 9, 2016, that the particles of dust that escapes was by no means the emissions of conventional diesel-engined cars, but the impact tends to be more dangerous.

Another researcher, Peter Achten also revealed, "We found that the toxins produced by the environmentally friendly cars, ie the brakes and tires, larger than the particles produced from conventional machines. The dust particles that can cause heart attack, stroke, and asthma, if the levels high."

To support their findings, the scientists conduct research directly. Later, they also process data from the automotive industry and the research conducted by the relevant authority of the British Government.
The greener alternative, including hybrid cars (similar to the one pictured), are said to produce more particles from tyre and brake wear because batteries and other parts needed to propel them make them heavier. (Picture from: http://adf.ly/1aDKbV)
This study aimed to find out how the dust particles generated from brakes and tires and connected to the weight of the vehicle. The scientists found that the electric and hybrid car weighs are approximately 24 percent less weight than conventional cars. From here it is known that the wear rate of the tires on the electric and hybrid cars will be faster than a conventional vehicles.

Results of research conducted by the scientists at Edinburgh University turned out to be in line with that made by Professor Ranjeet Sokhi from the University of Hertfordshire, England. He put the monitor of pollution detectors in the tunnel Hatfield passed 49 thousand vehicles per day.

The result is known that every vehicle release 34-39 micrograms of particles per kilometer. However it is known that only a third of the particles produced from conventional-engined car. The rest of the particles produced from the friction of tires with road and canvas with disc brakes.

Sokhi also concluded that dust particles resulting from the electric and hybrid car engines should be a concern of all parties.

However, a spokesman for the British Ministry of Transport stressed that the use of the electric and hybrid cars able to reduce exhaust emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) is very significant. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | DAILY MAIL]
