The supercar named 'BAIC Arcfox-7,' driven by using a 100 percent electric power and reportedly will go on sale in China's auto market by the end of this year. It seem  like a car that is ready to conquer the race track, the design of BAIC Arcfox-7 inspired by the single-seat Formula-E racing car.

Like all the vehicles that compete in the Formula-E racing events, Arcfox-7 is also equipped with an electric battery that offers exceptional performance.

Supported by a 6.6 kWh battery that is connected to the electric motors powered up to 603 horsepower, BAIC Arcfox-7 has weighs a fairly hefty, namely 1,755 kg (3,869 lbs). However, this supercar capable of accelerating from 0-100 km/h in less than 3.0 seconds, before reaching a maximum speed of 162 mph or 260 km/h.

With this kind of performance, of course, the car need a reliable braking system, therefore the Arcfox-7 is also equipped with carbon ceramic brakes with six-piston calipers in front and four-piston callipers at the rear, which marks the handling capabilities of Arcfox 7 around the racing track.
However, all this performance is only capable of being brought as far as 186 miles or 299 km on a single battery's charging, which is relatively low for an electric supercar. However, once again, its high performance probably will make people forget about the cruising range is low. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | GT SPIRIT]

Zero-Style Motorcycle by Shinya Kimura

Shinya Kimura is a Japanese born custom bike builder, famous for founding the 'zero-style' movement. In 1992 Kimura set up Zero Engineering in Japan, but now runs Chabott Engineering out of Azusa California, which has quickly become one of the most famous garages on the scene.

Like Chicara Nagata, Kimura is treating the motorcycle as art, and the approach is paying off. A zero-style bike is typically based around a rigid gooseneck, a pre-1984 HD engine, springer front end, spoked wheels and often includes parts of the bike remaining in bare metal.
This bike is called ‘Hoon’ and it was created by Shinya Kimura in 2006 based on 1960 Honda C100. (Picture from: http://adf.ly/1ZsG7B)
The inspiration came from ‘wabi sabi’ (austere refinement) and the beauty of the raw materials and incorporating the essence of ‘wa’ (harmony) into his designs (Shinya doesn’t draw by the way, it’s all in his head!). Everything is reflected in every motorcycle is done by him. He is truly an expert to build a motorcycle as an artwork.

For example, 'Hoon' was one of the best of 'Zero-Style' motorcycles built by Kimura in 2006, This bike built based on 1960 Honda C100 and came with minimal interpretations of vintage motorcycles, with low-key paintjobs and Harley-Davidson springer front ends. There’s a Jules Verne, steampunk tinge to Hoon that we love.

Beside Hoon, there are many motorcycles that have been built by Kimura throughout his career in the motorcycle world. Call it, the Needle that built in 2005, Spike in 2007, Edge in 2010, etc. All of which can be seen at the Chabott Engineering site. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | CHABOTT ENGINEERING | BIKEEXIF]

Are YOU willing, if Our next generation will living on top of plastic waste?

The use of plastic is very closely related to everyday life. In addition to packaging, plastic is often used as the basic material needs of the building, electronics, household items or clothing. Unfortunately, plastic also has its impact is not good, especially for the environment. Because the plastic material difficult to disentangle.

From research conducted by the University of Leicester, England, suggests that the use of plastics in a variety of human activities will make the Earth coated by plastic in the next 50 years. Imagine, in every three years, humans produce nearly 1 billion tons of plastic-made of polyethylene (petroleum derivatives).

"With the trend of use, the plastic can be fossilized far into the future," said Jan Zalasiewicz, a professor of paleobiology at University of Leicester, as quoted by Kompas on Friday, January 29, 2016.

The study was published in the Anthropocene journal in 2013. It contained warned that the excessive use of plastic (the substance to be inert and difficult to decompose) geological serious impact.

Still according to the study, the Earth can be coated by the plastic, become the part that can't decompose in the soil, and often end up in the sea. When you have reached the ocean floor, the plastic would be more difficult to disentangle. In the underwater conditions which are dark, cold, lack of oxygen and made the plastic decomposition process be more difficult.

Globally, the latest report of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in 2014 noted that every year there are 20 million tons of plastic end up in the sea. The research studies that followed also by Jenna R Jambeck and his colleagues in 2015, which adds the data that Indonesia was in the second place the largest contributor to the plastic waste into the sea, under China.

With that fact, the sea can be a giant waste baskets that are harmful to the living creatures in it. Plankton, fish and sea birds, for example, will be prone to consume plastic waste it anyway. Facts will get worse if the presence of plastic waste already entered the food chain because of the condition.

In 2009, according to the research of Greeneration (non-governmental organizations following the waste issue in Indonesia), states that every single person in Indonesia produces an average of 700 plastic bags per year. When accumulated, there are more than 100 billion plastic bags (which consumes 12 million barrels of petroleum) used by the Indonesian people in one year.

Yes, if everyone does not change their behavior, the plastic will actually be fossil in the future. United States had already been aware of it. That's why, since 2014, the US government imposed a ban on the use of plastic in the big stores.

Then, a similar move made by UK government in 2015. The country is enacting plastic pay in stores, with a tag of 5 pence per bag, the equivalent of less than USD 1,000. As a result, these policies reduce the use of plastic by 80 per cent in Wales.

Well, the paid plastic policy also began to be applied in Indonesia. Since February 21, 2016, the government imposed a policy of paid plastic bag. Tests performed for approximately three months to June 5, 2016, where the public obliged to pay Rp.200 per plastic bag while shopping in a retail store. Noted, there are 22 cities across Indonesia who participated in the trial by that date.

Of course, this obligation does not apply to people who bring their own shopping bags. Although nominally an additional price for plastic bags (even when accumulated over the year) is not great, bring their own bags every time want to going to shop, could have started by wearing the momentum of this paid plastic policy.

If the nominal amount does not become a nuisance for you to switch to the habit of bringing their own shopping bags, try to remember only the possible impact for the Earth and our children (the future inhabitants of the planet) as a result of the use of materials difficult to decompose.

Say 'No' to the plastics start from now!!

The above research can be used as the reference. Do not let future generations must take pains to sort plastic-free food of every kind of food that exist on Earth. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SORUCES | KOMPAS SAINS]

If MINI makes Sedan

The plans of the MINI car manufacturer will launch the sedan version was apparently not a figment. A teaser image of MINI sedan designed by renowned automotive designer, Theophilus Chin has been widely circulated on the Internet recently.

From the car's figure, the MINI sedan still retains the character of its distinctive design which uses round lights in the front. As a differentiator for the sedan model, the pillar designed higher and have a tail as the trunk space like a sedan in general.

Although its shape was changed, uniquely in the teaser image of MINI sedan remains has a touch of retro aura in its modern design. Not far-away, the design is not separated from retro style like other MINI models.

As quoted from Autoevolution, when it launched the MINI sedan will become the entry-level class of products in other MINI products. The price offered is more competitive than the price of other products such as MINI Countryman, Clubman and Convertible.

Just to note, the MINI sedan will use a four-cylinder engine that is claimed to have more power than the three-cylinder engine in use today. As is known, the power of three-cylinder engine which used by MINI today reaches 134 hp with a torque of 162 Nm.

It looks like this is not a good thing, because the shape looks strange.... *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | THEOPILUS CHIN | AUTOEVOLUTION]

Is George Wyman's classic motorcycle found?

A classic motorcycle allegedly as the first motorcycle used to travel across the United States in 1903 found after nearly 111 years to disappear.

George A. Wyman was an architect, who became the first gy to ride on a motorcycle travelled around the United States. He made an epic journey with a California motorcycle that starts from San Francisco, CA on May 16, 1903 and ends 50 days later in New York on July 6, 1903. Wyman got a record as the first American who rode a motorcycle in long-distance and heaviest in the world.

California motorcycle design is very simple, using the thin tires, without shockabsorber, only two small springs under the seat, is not very comfortable to ride. Having used a few weeks, Wyman let the bike on display at New York Straight, then moved to the Golden Gate Museum in San Francisco. In less than two years, the bike disappeared without a trace.

Many rumors about the existence of the historic motorcycle, some say it destroyed during an earthquake in San Francisco in 1906, some are saying on display at a bar. Another rumor said Otis Chandler, the Los Angeles Times publisher who is also a motorcycle enthusiast, bought it in the 1970s. After Chandler's death in 2006, Wyman Memorial Association received the news about the motorcycle from one of Chandler's fellows, Dave Scoffone.

There is no strong evidence to believe that the classic motorcycle is the original unit. However, some components show similarities such as when Wyman travel for the first time, such as a carrying rack to hold extra fuel and cargo and a small storage compartment underneath the seat post.

Tim Masterson, the project manager of the Wyman Memorial Project said that they were looking for photographic evidence or documentation to support the authenticity of the motorcycle that they get it.

"If it can be proven, this would be the state assets," said Masterson. In addition, the historic motors will also be worth very costly if it proves its authenticity. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | ATLAS OBSCURA]

Penemu Mesin Fax

ALEXANDER BAIN (1811-1877)

Plakat peringatan tentang penemuan Alexander Bain.
