The MG Cyberster Breaks Cover in the UK

New EV Roadster - After making debut at Auto Shanghai 2021, MG Cars, now under the ownership of China's SAIC Motors, is set to electrify the roadster scene with the production model of the MG Cyberster in England. This sleek and high-performance electric soft-top roadster marks a significant stride for MG, blending an aggressive design with eco-conscious driving.

At its European premiere, MG tantalizingly confirmed the arrival of the production version of the MG Cyberster in Europe, slated for the summer of 2024. While the final specifications remain under wraps, the Cyberster's striking design alone is poised to enamor aficionados of classic sports cars.

Carl Gotham, MG's Advanced Design Director, expressed, "This is a momentous occasion for everyone involved in shaping this distinctive sports car. The Cyberster promises MG enthusiasts an electric roadster that evokes the thrill of MG's iconic sports cars from the past."

Although the production iteration of the MG Cyberster exhibits subtle deviations from its concept counterpart, it ingeniously melds futuristic aesthetics with the time-honored elements of sports car design. The front end boasts an elongated hood and a low-profile fascia reminiscent of earlier MG sports cars.

The Cyberster's body features aerodynamic curves, accentuated by a sloping rear or Kammback. Adding to the excitement, MG equips the Cyberster with a retractable roof, granting the driver and passengers the quintessential sports car experience. From a futuristic standpoint, MG incorporates distinctive elements such as scissor doors and Union Jack taillights.

In terms of dimensions, the car measures 4,535 mm in length, 1,913 mm in width, and stands 1,329 mm tall, with a generous wheelbase spanning 2,690 mm. Weighing in at 1,850–1,985 kg, it's about 700 kg heftier than the Mazda MX-5.

During the unveiling, it was revealed that this electric marvel outpaces numerous world-renowned supercars in terms of speed and power. Wang Jian, Director of Electric Propulsion Development at SAIC Motor, proudly declared that the Cyberster, with its sporty appearance, can rocket from 0 to 100 km/h in under three seconds.

"After test-driving it on the track, I can attest to its extraordinary speed. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.6 seconds," Wang exclaimed.

The MG Cyberster is poised to hit the market with two sub-models, one featuring a single electric motor and the other a dual-motor setup. In the single motor variant, the motor is placed at the rear, utilizing a rear-wheel-drive configuration.

"We've equipped the Cyberster with a single-speed gearbox and an oil cooling system to maintain optimal performance while managing heat," explained Wang further.
In the single electric motor version, the car boasts a formidable 231 kW or 314 PS. As for the top-tier variant with dual electric motors, each dynamo churns out 150 kW (204 PS) for the front wheels and 200 kW (272 PS) for the rear. When it comes to battery capacity, the Cyberster also offers two options, 64 kWh and 77 kWh, enabling ranges of 500 km and 580 km on a single charge, respectively.
