Porsche Vision Gran Turismo specifically made to race virtually

Virtual BEAST The more you come here, the thinner the boundary between real and virtual feels, so that virtual world exploration has also become one of the automotive industry's players business strategies. This can be seen when Porsche AG. and Polyphony Digital Inc., a subsidiary of Sony Interactive Entertainment have presented a spectacular virtual racing car concept.

As we all know the ‘Gran Turismo’ series of virtual racing games has featured Porsche sports cars since 2017, most recently the Taycan Turbo S. For the launch of the seventh edition of the game, also for the first time, Porsche developed a vehicle purely for the virtual world.

Here's the Porsche Vision Gran Turismo, it is the manufacturer's first sports car concept study built specifically to drive virtually in computer games, and would be available exclusively in Gran Turismo 7 which released on March 4, 2022 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 game consoles.

By partnering with Polyphony Digital, Porsche not only demonstrates a special visionary approach, but again demonstrates the high level of expertise among its designers. Freed from the constraints of model development for series production, they were able to realize their own idea for a Gran Turismo concept car.

"A vehicle designed purely for cyberspace opens up exciting possibilities for us that are otherwise very much set in the regular design process for series production cars. Projects like the Porsche Vision Gran Turismo are invaluable to us in the creative process. Further developing our clearly defined Porsche Design DNA and trading with designers from other industries is an important part of our job," said Michael Mauer, Vice President Style Porsche.

The Porsche Vision Gran Turismo virtual race car features a future-oriented version of familiar Porsche design elements. The concept car exemplifies the brand's signature proportions with a very sporty height-to-width ratio, a very low bonnet and very prominent wings.

The highly pristine headlights and integrated air inlet create a visual link to the Taycan's design language which draws heavily on the car's pure electric drive. The rear is adorned with a very narrow light strip which is a further development of the headlights familiar from the 911 and Taycan models.

The clear emphasis on brand identity continues in the interior, with a curved holographic display, tailored to the driver, that appears to hover over the steering wheel. Furthermore the realistic appearance of surfaces in the interior also plays a major role. The low seating position underlines the dynamic feel of the car.

"We spent a long time considering the right material design consisting of carbon and titanium. The aim is to reduce weight while increasing performance. In addition, the sustainable aspect also plays a role in forward-looking projects. For example, we only use completely vegan materials in the concept car," said Markus Auerbach, Head of Interior Design at Porsche.

"Porsche's appeal comes from its pristine design, and when it comes to engineering expertise, we and Porsche follow the same perfectionist philosophy. We share the same passion for racing and are looking forward to future cars," said Kazunori Yamauchi, President, Polyphony Digital.

As well as the purely design-related theme, there are also new functions that contribute to a strong sports car feeling, with players experiencing haptic feedback via the controller, which mimics the feel of a steering wheel. This fast and direct feedback is reminiscent of a real racing car. Expanding its gaming activities also has strategic significance for Porsche.

"We were able to engage a young and digital target group in the cradle of their automotive dreams: the world of games. The partnership with Polyphony Digital and 'Gran Turismo' is a perfect fit for Porsche, because motorsport (whether real or virtual) is part of our DNA," said Robert Ader, Vice President of Marketing at Porsche AG.
Porsche creates an authentic and emotional experience. In this context, video games and virtual worlds offer new opportunities to make sports cars interactive, and to make driving experiences accessible. This integration of the first Porsche sports car developed purely for virtual space is an important milestone in the strategic partnership between Porsche AG. and Polyphony Digital Inc.
For this reason, Porsche has been working with various companies from the gaming industry for several years and these activities are now an integral part of the marketing mix. The ultimate goal is to create a brand experience that lasts. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | PORSCHE | GRAN-TURISMO | CARSCOOPS | ]
