Did you know this weird looking FZ93 was a hint of the Ferrari Enzo?

Weird ONES Ferrari and Zagato have collaborated many times, and each time they have produced something special and unique. As quoted from Carrozzieri Italiani, it is known that collaboration between the two Italian automotive companies began in 1949 through the Ferrari 166 MM Panoramica sports car, and since then the collaboration between the two has continued.

While in the 1990s they produced this little known Ferrari prototypes called the Formula Zagato 93 (FZ93), it is this one-of supercar built based on Ferrari 512 Testarossa s/n of 83935 and debuted at the 1993 Geneva Auto Show. The unique designed sports car was built after a small series of curious Ferrari 348 TB Elaborazione and as followed many classic Zagato-Ferraris which were all built before in exclusive numbers.

The unique FZ93 was penned by Ercole Spada who made a return to this Milan-based carrozzeria and design this car. At the time He was already known as the  the designer of the legendary Aston Martin DB4 Zagato and more recent cars like the iconic Alfa Romeo 155.

As you can see on this Testarossa-based sports car has no the slightest resemblance to the donor car, as featured unique stylistic creases like the famous Zagato 'double bubble' roof coupled with its front end had two large air inlets, similar to those under the wings of a fighter plane today.

The lines recalled those of a fighter aircraft or a stylised Formula One racing car, particularly the front and rear ends where one could catch a glimpse of the nose and fins of a racing car. The bonnet resembled a Formula One model both for the design of the central part and for the fact that it did not point down to the road like all traditional 'super cars' but was 'suspended' above the front bumper.

These unique design lines were further elaborated by Ercole Spada on the later car he made in 2008 named Spada Codatronca TS. As for the drivetrain, the Ferrari FZ93 still relies on the Testarossa's mechanics, with its 5-liter Ferrari V12 capable of 428 hp that allows it to reach a top speed of about 315 kph and go from 0 to 100 in 4.8 seconds. Not bad isn't.

When first released and shown at Geneva back in the 1993 by Zagato, the FZ93 revealed under an awkward two-tone paint schemes of Ferrari's Rosso Corsa on the top and Nero Cavallino in the lower part of the body which easily distracted the viewer from the actual lines of the car. Later the Milan-based coachbuilder changed its color with more homogeneous all-over red paintwork, and never looked back since then.

Despite showing in unusual paintwork, the FZ93 was initially received with mixed emotions and most viewers tended to prefer the original Pininfarina-designed Testarossa better. Later did you know that the design of the FZ93 had a big influence on the Ferrari Enzo which was released almost 10 years later. 
As you can see both cars have Formula One-inspired noses and overall shapes, so it could be said that the FZ93 is another proof of Zagato’s foresight and innovation.
