Maestro Works - Talking about the unique works of Luigi Colani, a renowned contemporary industrial designer may never end, although he had passed away in the 2019. Because this German designer has been active in the modern industrial world since the early of 1950s to the second millenium, with the segmentation of works varied, not only from the automotive world but also the world of aviation, buildings to household furnishings.

As a designer, Luigi Colani is famous for his design lines imitated various naturally dynamic forms which later became his typical style known as Biodesign, as the end result seems quirky and unique. If you look closely, Colani applies the Biodesign style on many his vehicle works to interpret what he called as natural forms which has none or minimal straight lines so they give a unique and quirky impression.

So, on this occasion, again we will look at some of the works of the maestro who are no less unique and especially the creations featured with long snout such the classic cars of early twentieth centuries. And we start with the figure of a beautiful retro-designed car called Colani L'Aiglon which was built by Luigi Colani in 1976.

This is a two seater sporty vintage roadster built in a touch of Colani's typical Biodesign style by using the front axle from a Rolls Royce Silver Cloud and also the V8 and camshaft of an Opel Diplomat. The roadster is said to be a bold combination of neoclassicism and biodesign in the form of a nearly 7 meters long concept car.

This Colani's creation car first appeared in public at the Geneva Motor Show 1976as a white colored gorgeous roadster. Then in the course of its life this vintage-styled car had underwent several changes in forms and colors, once it shown as a pink coupé featured with an Opel GT roof and Rolls-Royce grille. Nowadays the Colani L'Aiglon Coupé has changed its color again to blue and is one of the car collections on display at the Colani Museum in Aarwangen, Switzerland.

The next long snout car is no less beautiful and spectacular than the first one above. Reportedly also those car called Colani Horch Mega-Roadster was Colani's follow-up to Colani L'Aiglonconcept car from 20 years prior and built by the maestro in 1996. Besides that the car making was also mentioned as a form of Luigi Colani'concern for the loss of the German famous automotive brands Horsch shortly after the Second World Warbegan.

For your info, Horch was a German luxury car manufacturer that was established in 1901 by one of Audi founder August Horch (1868 - 1951) and this company existences only until 1939 before merging into Auto Union which is the forerunner of modern Audi companies todays. Along with the old automotive brand trends that rose again in recent years, Mercedes for example has brought back the Maybach, and through this car Colani proposes his interpretation of an elegant coupe to revive the Horch marque glorious days at the end of the twentieth century.

The Colani Horch Mega-Roadster is a combination of aerodynamics with art, as seen in every single one of Luigi Colani's designs with prominent designs such as the wavy hood is garnished by the special ornament of a metal figurine of naked woman whose her hair windswept back, her body prone but struggling for something against some hard-to-overcome force and as if creating ripples in the hood, while her left hand clutching for a grip to the front grill and her right hand holds a Horch logo.

The Mega-Roadster prototype was first shown to the public in 1996. Even though it wasn't an authorized design of Audi, the Horch Mega-Roadster prototype was a sort of neoclassic design with bulbous front fenders overshadowed only by the cartoonishly long hood and cowl-to-front-axle ratio. Even though it's still long, Colani's Horch concept remained equally ostentatious with his Utah 8-like fenders, taffied Buick-like grille and proposed to use 16-cylinder drivetrain.
Like much of Colani's works, his Horch Mega-Roadster prototype proposed all sorts of excess ranging of excess in line and curve, excessive consumption, excessive power. Exactly, by considering the real Horch did produce eight-cylinder luxury cars up to and during its time as one of the four carmakers merged into Auto Union in 1932.

Meanwhile in actual condition, as we can see from the exixting photos of the Horch Mega-Roadster, Colani employed a Ford V8 reportedly a good version of 460-cu.in., capable to burst out of 620 horsepower. While its cowl appears full of GM components while the dash looks like Colani made use of his Jeg's catalog. Initially, the Mega-Roadster is painted in silver with a hardtop spanning the cabin and with blackwall tires before Colani resprayed it with purple color and added the whitewalls as you can see it today.
As quoted of Hemmings, in the 2019, this Colani's unique-shaped car found in poor condition in a car garage in Küttigen for a long time, as for the past two years, the one-off has stood as collateral for a loan from the Aargau car mechanic named Andreas Zehnder in Küttigen. But at the time the garage owner wants to get the money he is owed and is therefore auctioning off the car, so it's ended up in a debt collection auction in the Swiss canton of Aargau, the auction description makes no note; according to the auction company, no paperwork accompanies the car, nor does the unique hood ornament.
