What will the next 'Godzilla' look like?

Recently Nissan returned to the public spotlight when it made a significant overhaul of the latest Z model. Even though everything looks fine and well, the details about the next generation 'Godzilla' remain rumors. Yes, it is undeniable that the Nissan GT-R is the Japanese manufacturer flagship in producing high-performance cars.

Rumors about the presence of this variant once again catapulted Nissan as a big name car manufacturer to be reckoned with in the global automotive world. This is not surprising because the world's automotive enthusiasts are looking forward to the Nissan GT-R36 as a successor to the more than a decade old GT-R35. Regardless, the Japanese automaker seems remains committed to maintaining the surprise factor associated with its next high-performance supercars presence.

"The next GT-R goal is to become a very credible, high-performance machine such the currently GT-R, even after several years on the market, it's still a very credible super fast car, super great to drive and we will stay true with that," said Ivan Espinosa, Senior Vice President of Global Product Planning of Nissan.

Furthermore, the rumors also hint that the next Godzilla is expected to be released in 2023 and will feature a gas-electric drivetrain with a kinetic energy recovery system said to be inspired by the world's renown endurance racing. Fortunately seems the vehicle has more opportunities to realize than the Nissan GT-R LM Nismo race car which had shown its performance at the 24 Hours of LeMans 2015, with unsatisfactory results where they lost a lot of speed and only one car reached the finish line.

But the spirit to win at the Circuit de la Sarthe cannot be forgotten right away. Over the years, Nissan has found great results in the auto racing sport in building its best performance engines. Well, the Japanese manufacturer is indeed quite passionate about presenting its car made in various racing arena. So that the racing tracks becomes a favorite place for Nissan to conduct research and development of its cars, and from the data obtained in which then becomes a strong input for the manufacturer in constructing its next high-performance production vehicles.

"GT-R, along with Z and Patrol, are perhaps the three most iconic name labels and represent the brands we have as a company, which have a deep history within the company," said Espinosa. Yes, Nissan is not in a hurry to present the latest GT-R, as mentioned above, considering many things. One of them, the Japanese manufacturer is still and has not decided what type of engine is suitable for use in the latest GT-R.

As quoted from CarGuide, the next Nissan GT-R R36 will have more fierce version of the twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V6 with the power of 710 hp (530 kw) and a maximum torque of 575 lb-ft (780 Nm). Although previously the GT-R product specialist head, Hiroshi Tamura, who was present at the launching event of the Australian' edition of the Nissan's 50th Anniversary GT-R35 and Nissan 370Z in the 2019 has revealed that the Japanese car manufacturer is still considering its options.

“I have it in my mind, but not for going out (at the moment). So nobody knows. I can't tell you. But I can say, imagining for the next generation (car) is already in the chat and we are still talking about a solution," he said further.

When asked whether he was considering a hybrid or all-electric powertrain, Tamura replied that Nissan's board had not yet come to a decision. "I have to wait. I am only the main "conductor" while the GT-R is the "orchestra". The company will show me the orchestra members. They need to decide who will play the violin and who will play the trumpet," he continued.

Tamura continued, the meaning of the parable is what technology needs to be installed. “Twenty years is a time of breakthrough in technology. It's easy to understand about some of the current ways of expanding, but if we need to break through, that's a different story. It depends on the direction of the company," he said further.

There is absolutely no doubt that Nissan will launch a successor for the R35, but the public may have to wait. Tamura reiterates his earlier statement that the R35 is 12 years old, that's not too long in the Skyline history. In fact, the same basic architecture and powertrain are used for the R32, R33, and R34 generation models, so Nissan clearly thinks it has time before the R35 needs to retire and move onto the next GT-R R36. Well, once again we have to be patient to wait for it. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | MOTOR1 | CARGUIDE | CARADVICE | FACEBOOK ]
