Toyota La Coupe: A Bold New Look in Hybrid Design

Unique ONES - The world of sports car enthusiasts is always buzzing with excitement, especially when Toyota makes an unexpected move. Recently, a new design caught the attention of many, stirring curiosity and excitement. This design, although slightly unconventional, had some enthusiasts speculating whether it could be a successor to the iconic Toyota MR2.

What makes this model even more intriguing is that it's not just a concept or sketch. In fact, this new Toyota creation, which some have labeled as unappealing, exists as a prototype. The model, named Toyota La Coupe, first made its appearance in photos shared by members of the SupraMKV forum. The images, which surfaced via Carscoops, showed the car at a ferry terminal in Naoshima, Japan, adding a layer of mystery to its already unique design.

Interestingly, the Toyota La Coupe didn’t just pop up out of nowhere. Photos of the car had circulated before, showing it at Ginza Sony Park back in October of last year. This only fueled the intrigue, as the car seemed to have a past that had remained hidden from the public eye.

What really sets the La Coupe apart is its appearance. The front of the car features oval-shaped headlamps that taper slightly at the ends, combined with a distinctive daytime running light (DRL) design. The look is modern, yet mysterious, giving the car an edge that stands out in a lineup of more conventional designs. Adding to this, the blue Toyota logo embedded in the front spoiler immediately hints at its hybrid nature. Toyota typically reserves this blue badge for its environmentally friendly models, suggesting that the La Coupe is likely powered by a hybrid powertrain, a nod to the future of cleaner driving.

The rear of the car is perhaps even more striking than the front. In a rather bold design choice, the back mirrors the front’s aesthetic, though the rear lights offer a variation in form. This design decision sets the La Coupe apart from anything else Toyota has done recently. However, despite the captivating exterior, details about the interior are scarce. Only a handful of photos show glimpses of the interior, focusing mainly on the instrument cluster and center stack.

From what can be seen, the interior of the La Coupe is quite minimalistic. Two circular digital displays provide essential information such as speed, fuel level, gear, and battery status, reinforcing the belief that this is indeed a hybrid model. The simplicity of the interior matches the car's futuristic exterior, but it also leaves many wondering what other features Toyota might be hiding inside this mysterious vehicle.

What remains unclear is the future of the Toyota La Coupe. While this prototype has captured the imagination of enthusiasts, there’s no indication that it will ever make it to production. Yet, the fact that Toyota invested in designing and building this prototype suggests that the company is exploring new ideas, possibly even considering a mid-engined coupe for the future.

There have been whispers about the revival of Toyota's classic sports car lines, with rumors of a new Celica or MR2 circulating in recent years. Even Tetsuya Tada, the head of Toyota Gazoo Racing, has expressed interest in adding a third sports car to the lineup. But whether the La Coupe is a glimpse into that future remains to be seen.
For now, the Toyota La Coupe remains a mystery. It might never reach the showroom floor, but its existence alone keeps hope alive that Toyota is contemplating new directions in the world of sports cars. Whether or not a new MR2 or Celica is on the horizon, this concept reminds us that innovation and excitement are still very much at the heart of Toyota’s future plans. *** [EKA [08102019] | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | SUPRAMKV | CARSCOOPS | AUTOINDUSTRIYA | DRIVETRIBE ]
