The iconic Pantera supercar of the 1970s reborn in a modern looks

We discussed again the Modena-based Ares Design where in the previous article we wrote about a unique C2 Corvette StingRay. So on this occasion we will discuss about their new project to recreate the legendary De Tomaso Pantera supercar of the 1970s under the name of Project Panther. This car based on the current Lamborghini Huracan, and it will be fully assembled at the firm's new factory in Modena.

The main goal of the company design team in the creating of the Project Panther is to recreate the essence of an iconic car by future classic design fusion (with a tagline: 'future classics that reflects the essence of iconic cars.') 

And reportedly, the car will be built in 'very limited' numbers and will go on sale in the second half of 2018.

To create the Project Panther into a reality, so then the Huracan body should be thoroughly overhauled with design cues from the 1970's Pantera liberally applied.

Meanwhile for the drivetrain, this car will be equiped with a 5.2 liters V10 engine, associated with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission system.

In addition, this car will also adopt an all-wheel drive (AWD) system like the Lamborghini Huracan. By this engine, the new-look car is expected to blow up power of up to 602 horsepower while on the asphalt.

For the chassis, this car uses the same aluminum and carbon fiber with Huracan. The car exterior will be appeared in a unique and beautiful design by combining elements of retro and modern design. The first noticeable retro feature is the pop-up headlamps, which never been seen again on a production car since the Chevrolet Corvette C5 and Lotus Esprit both ended their production in 2004.

The black-colored horizontal-fins on the car's both side such as on the original Pantera are also fitted on this classic remake. There're some modern features are noticeable on the Project Panther, such as the 10-spoke wheels wrapped with the Pirelli P-Zero tyres and the new exhaust pipes.

At the rear, Ares also was performed the same trick by making the Project Panther look as close as possible to the original car built by De Tomaso, which also was based in Modena between 1959 until the company was declared bankcrupt in 2015.

As we all knew, Ares Design was founded by ex-Lotus CEO Danny Bahar and has already begun to design coachbuilt variants of existing cars. The firm recently announced their new 18,000m2 factory in Modena where the new Project Panther will be assembled. 

"We started Ares three years ago, with client car demand that is unprecedented, and has satisfied 200 customers with unique interiors, exterior designs, bodywork techniques, and performance improvements," explained Bahar.

While Ares Design claims, currently the car is undergoing an aerodynamic design process, then technical crash-test before being handed over to the potential customers.
