The future autonomous vehicle concept of Panasonic

For CES 2018 and their 100 year anniversary, Panasonic wanted to break the convention that they are just a consumer electronics company.  The company has elevated itself to something much more. This year Panasonic has showcased technology that demonstrates how the company is both a business partner for other leading companies as well as the government.

This "pivot" falls into a more significant trend that was present throughout CES this year. The 100-year old company exhibited tremendous leaps in technology. However, there were some obvious standouts from the company.

R&D at Panasonic have decided to ask the question, "what happens when we are no longer driving?" This idea of the level 5 autonomous vehicle has come up time and time again this year at CES. The question is no longer if we will have autonomous vehicles but rather how companies can design experiences around them.

Now when your car becomes your chauffeur, Panasonic imagines that you will want to be very comfortable. Infotainment systems are expected to play a bigger role in how we experience our journey to our destinations.

Panasonic plans to build into ADAS by taking some of the same consumer electronics and placing them into the vehicle. This is where the autonomous cabin comes into play. This Blade Runner-esque vehicle can be everything from an entertainment center, a roaming office, or even a relaxation center. 

The cockpit includes features different capabilities based on the level the ADAS or autonomous level of the vehicle. At level 3, the ultra-wide display, large-screen HUD, and driver monitoring system work in conjunction to deliver a health monitoring system for the driver, full 360° panoramic view projected on the display as well as a colorful driver guide HUD.

The real fun is when you get to a level 5 or a fully automated vehicle.  As stated by the team, "The cabin concept is designed for a future vision of autonomous driving by combining solutions and expertise for a better life, that have been refined by Panasonic living space and automotive systems technologies." The cabin includes a luxurious, modern, and high-quality space for passengers. You are given three choices for a living style: a living room style, business style, and a relaxed style.

In the living room style, you will have the luxuries of a digital sunshade, an air quality controller, living room lighting, and an agent function achieved by AI and cloud connectivity. Moving onto to the "business style" you would be able to set up shop work like you are in the city even video conference if you would like.

Finally, in the "relax style" you could lock yourself in and create a full meditative environment with aromas and all. All these features could be a part of your future.
