Ace Motors Corporation was founded in 1919 by William G. Henderson, an American engineer and motorcycle designer who was once also has established the Henderson Motorcycle and sold the company to Ignaz Schwinn, the owner of Excelsior Motor manufacturing & Supply company in 1917.
William worked at the Excelsior less than 2 years, because there are disagreements he resigned and decided to make own company once again. The company was named Ace Motors Corporation, with the new inline-4 engine design but still similar to the design of Henderson motorcycles, William done with carefully and avoided by using a patented design called Ace Four Motorcycle.

The new Ace motorcycles released and known as the Two-wheeled Duesenberg because the motorcycle has a high-performance machines and systems are excluded. To increase the attractiveness of its customers to the new bike, the company recruited Erwin G Baker who works in Indian Motor Company.
Erwin was set a transcontinental record for riding accross the United States with an Ace motorcycle for 6 days 22 hours 52 minutes and smashing the current record that had been set on a Henderson was also designed by William.

The new machine of Ace Four notorcycle uses the F-head (inlet over exhaust) engine with the similar gear valve to the original Henderson. but the engine capacity changed to 1,220 cc and generate a power of 16 hp, and reportedly the top speed of the Ace Four motorcycle reach 75 mph. The motorcycle using final drive chain after the power is passed through a 3-speed transmission of hand-shift transmission.

Tragically, William Henderson died in a car accident in 1922 while testing the Ace sporting solo in Philadelphia. At the age of 39 years, and his death is a fatal influence on the Ace Motor Corporation and they can last for 2 years before the company was bought by Indian company in 1927. Then, Indian producing the inline-4 engine for a few years and switch to the V-twin after that.

Almost 100 years of his death, Henderson passion of the inline-4 engine has proven and become a milestone and become the thinking of the future. Today, many the fastest superbikes in the world use the inline-4 engine configuration, although after the position is rotated 90 degrees so that the orientation be transverse.
