Daimler seriously want to manufacture electric scooter

Did you remembered on the Daimler announcement about the electric scooter production plan in 2010 ago under the brand of Smart? There was a long development, now the certainty that comes after revealed the patenting documents of these products in Europe.

This news raised hopes back, because after the announcement, no longer the valid whisperings. Although, in 2012, the company announced it will produce a mini scooter in 2014, and sell directly on the spot. (Jump to the article).

Then the news sank again. The problem was, Daimler already tied up in collaboration with the electric scooter manufacturer Vectrix for its development. However Vectrix went bankrupt last year, and was predictable, the Smart eScooter project being death along with Vectrix. Let's see the video bellow;
Like smoke appear without fire, the expectation was pushed back when the European Union's Intellectual Property Office (an EU's institute of the product patenting) issued a statement on Smart eScooter. The institute began to publish the design with the Daimler's approval.

From the illustration, the design looks very similar to the concept, although there are some updates. Such as, there is a telescopic fork, as well as dismissed the concept model was wearing a single suspension. So also in the back, seemed newfangled dual swing arm, wrapped electric motor with the Smart logo.

There was a place to put the smart phone, not a display mounted tidy as the concept. Riders can use their own electronic devices to display information on the motorcycle. Nevertheless, remains there's a digital display is used to indicate the remaining battery life and speed. Other details, there are two piston disc brakes at the front, and some parts are considered to be more realistic for motorcycle production version.

Although already surfaced, PR Chief of Smart Global Willem Spelten said that the company is still hoping to find the right partner to develop this model. Therefore, the project was postponed once again.
