A group of scientists from Columbia University, Seoul National University, and the Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science announced they successfully developed the incandescent lamp made of graphene. Graphene is a material that is thinner than the paper but strong as a gem that is suitable to make the thinnest light bulb ever.

Chairman of Research at Columbia University Young Duck Kim said, he found the light-emitting properties of graphene four years ago. "This discovery is surprising some people because they thought that graphene can not lead to the light," he said as reported by Mashable on Friday, June 19, 2015.
Kim and his team advise the use of this technology for the future. One of them could be used for Optical Network on chip communication. According to Kim, graphene could be used to create a thin incandescent lamp placed on a window or a wall in the next two to three years. In the next five years, graphene could be used to make transparent displays.
