BMW testing the 40 tons electric trucks

BMW Group partnered with SCHERM, a logistics company to operate an electric truck that has a weighs of 40-ton. This electric powered truck is the largest in Germany that will soon be gliding on the streets. In a press release, the BMW Group states that the electric truck already has a license to use on the highway.

"The electric truck is a sign that we continue to produce innovative solutions and overcome the logistical challenges," said Hermann Bohrer, factory director of the BMW Group Munich.

The trial will be conducted from the summer to take the route of the SCHERM Group HQ to the BMW Group factory in Munich, eight times a day. Distance of one-way trip only two kilometers.

The electric motor powering the truck makes 138 kW (185 HP) and puts it all down through an Allison 3000 transmission. Since the truck can carry up to 40 tons in total (including its own weight) you can imagine that those 10 miles will take some time to cover as this won’t be a land rocket

BMW calls the truck free of CO2 emissions and silent because it drove by the electric power. The cooperation is called by BMW worth millions of euros that will last a year and it is likely to continue.

BMW also mentioned that since 2014, more than half of their electricity needs from renewable energy supplied.. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | AUTOEVOLUTION]
