BMW launched their first plug-in hybrid (has a propulsion of conventional engine and a battery that can be charged from a power source) named the BMW X5 xDrive40e. In a press release, BMW mention that the X5 xDrive40e car is a sport utility vehicle (SUV) all-wheel drive with power generated from TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder engine with an electric motor.
The total power generated by the engine is 230kW/313 hp with CO2 emissions of 78-77 gr/km. Furthermore, this car can accelerate from zero to 100 kph (62 mph) in 6.8 seconds and on to an electronically-limited top speed of 209.21 kph (130 mph).
There is an eDrive button on the center console provides hybrid mode option to the driver with the basic settings AUTO EDrive. In this mode, from rest can be distributed in real-time full torque of 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) which is a combination of the engine and battery power.
There is also a MAX eDrive mode to fully electronic operation that produces 0 emissions, it is suitable for driving in urban areas. Mileage of fully charged battery is 31 kilometers.

And a SAVE Battery mode also can be activated by pressing the button. This feature is useful for securing the battery power for the next full-electric driving.
The plug-in X5's battery pack can be charged in about four hours when plugged into a regular household outlet or in a little under three hours when plugged into BMW's i Wallbox. A purpose-designed smartphone application lets the driver check the state of the battery, get an efficiency report, set the heating or the A/C and locate the nearest public charging station.
The BMW X5 xDrive40e will go on sale across Europe and in a few other markets including Russia and Japan this fall. BMW has not announced if the fuel-sipping SUV will be added to its North American lineup. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | LEFTLANENEWS]
