Mercedes-Benz's future truck will use four radar sensors, and two cameras to control the adaptive cruise control, automatic braking, stability control, and system help keep the vehicle on track. This prototype has a new system called "Predictive Powertrain Control" which uses the road topography information to maximize efficiency.
This vehicle will be fully self-driving, although currently not have the ability to change lanes and overtake other vehicle. However, Daimler said the technology will be coming soon.
"Autonomous technology will revolutionize the way freight transport, and creates huge benefits for everyone involved," explains Dr. Wolfgang Bernhard, a member of the Daimler Board of Management, which is responsible for trucks and buses.
Daimler optimistic about the future of this truck can reduce road congestion and traffic accidents are fatal. Producers say, the future of this truck will run more efficiently, which means lower operating costs for a truck manufacturer.
