Many people assume the scooter only comes from Italy which has begun to invade the world since 1946 through their famous brands such as Vespa and Lambretta. Though England also has a rows of scooters that is not less interesting with Italian scooters.
Even the ever present scooters that filled the streets in Europe from 1946 to 1970, was made by British leading manufacturers such as BSA, Triumph, Villiers and many others. Here are 4 classic scooter prototypes made by British manufacturers, as quoted by the British Motor Scooter:
1. Oscar Scooter
During the 1950's British enlivened by the appearance of many scooter prototypes, though not perfect was assembled. Such as a scooter prototype, named Oscar which made by a Blackburn based manufacturer, Projects and Development Ltd.

Oscar was introduced for the first time in 1953 at the automotive exhibition held in Frankfurt and London. The British scooter has a body made of glass fiber. No wonder if the curvature of its body so perfect. This elegant red scooter also has several models of the 122 cc, 175 cc, and 197 cc obtained from Villiers Engineering.
Oscar also was the first scooter that equipped with a fan cooled Villiers engine and it also had some novel features including linked brakes, and a hand start for the smaller engine and an electric start for the 197cc unit. It is thought six Oscar scooters were made and two of the prototypes are known to exist with British scooter collectors.
2. Harper Scootomobile
The Harper Scootomobile prototypes were made by Exeter based company, Harper Aircraft Company Ltd. and introduced for the first time at London Earls Court Exhibition Show in 1954. This scooter was developed from an earlier machine called the Saharan that its designer ‘Spike’ Rhiando took on a test drive to Cape Town via the Sahara desert.

The Harper was another streamlined glass-fibre scooter with a Villiers 122 cc engine or a 197 cc with electric start. The scooter had twin headlamps up front and two integral pannier bags on the rear bodywork.
Although potential customers waited two years with various updates and reports in the scooter press the luxury Harper never reach production. It is reported six Scootomobiles were made and just one has survived and now on show in the Hayes Museum in Somerset.
3. BSA Beeza
London's leading motorcycle manufacturers, such as BSA did not want to miss to make a rows of scooter prototypes. For the first time the BSA Beeza and Dandy introduced at London Earl's Court Exhibition Show in 1955.
Beeza BSA was a large-sized scooter with an engine capacity of 200 cc, 4-stroke with the position of the piston is at the side block. The plan, the BSA Beeza will be realized and mass production in April 1956. But unfortunately, until 1957 only BSA Dandy turns produced.

The company also recognize that the BSA Beeza prototype looks dashing with a larger diameter of the tire is not produced. However, precisely Beeza engine technology applied to the next BSA motorcycle series such as the BSA Sunbeam/Triumph Tigress.
4. DMW Scooter
There were over ten British prototype scooters/scooterettes in the 1950s from individuals and small companies along with a DMW 175 cc scooter in 1959 and a number of glass-fibre bodied machines made by Progress Supreme in 1957 based on the German Progress scooter.

Not being able to get some of these larger touring scooters to market in the early mid 1950s and did not bode well for the British motor scooter industry. (Wanna see the cool classic scooters of Japan)
