No need to wait a long time for the first asteroid in 2014. Space rock as big as a couch rolled into the Earth's atmosphere on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at 14:00 ET. And the asteroid named as 2014 AA.
That makes it more special is, its existence was discovered shortly before it hit the Earth. Being a second asteroid visible before impact. Such as reported by the Huffington Post, that the Catalina Sky Survey near Tucson, Arizona has been capturing the movement images of Asteroid 2014 AA.

The first faint asteroid known sighting on January 1, 2014 at about 01:20 ET. Where exactly it landed asteroid can not be determined. Quite complicated because, the potential coordinate could refer to Central America to East Africa. However, the most likely location of the collision off the coast of West Africa.

According to Steve Chesley of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, the location is most likely fall on the arc that stretches from Central America to East Africa, with the best location off the coast of West Africa, as reported by the Minor Planet Electronic Circular.
However, the U.S. space agency (NASA) suspect, the possibility did not escape the asteroid burning in the atmosphere. The small size and high speed can make it burn completely before reaching the Earth's surface.
Size of Asteroid 2014 AA similar with Asteroid 2008 TC3, which is about 2 to 3 meters. For comparison, Asteroid 2008 TC3 is broke up and no longer intact while in the northern Sudan sky on October 6, 2008. Before the emergence of Asteroid 2014 AA, the space rock is the only example known to exist before the asteroid hit Earth.
And as predicted, the foreign object falls in the Nubian Desert, North Sudan, where 15.9 kilograms of meteorites found. Most of its mass is believed to evaporate or disintegrate when entering Earth's atmosphere. The asteroid was also called Almahata Sitta, the Arabic word for "Station Six", the train stops on track to Khartoum near where space rock fragments are found. *** [EKA | FROM PREVIOUS SOURCES | HUFFINGTON POST | MINOR PLANET ELECTRONIC CIRCULAR | UNIVERSE TODAY]
