Peugeot Onyx Concept Scooter

Peugeot, a name synonymous with elegance and innovation in the automotive industry, extends its prowess beyond cars to the world of scooters. While Peugeot's scooter models predominantly grace the roads of Europe, the brand's commitment to pushing the boundaries of the motorcycle industry is evident in the unveiling of its intriguing scooter concept at the 2012 Paris Motor Show.

This avant-garde scooter, christened the Onyx Supertrike, shares its nomenclature with the Onyx supercar concept, underlining its association with cutting-edge design. The distinguishing feature of the Supertrike lies in its trike configuration, flaunting three wheels – one at the rear and two at the front, reminiscent of the popular Piaggio MP3.

A striking element of the Onyx Supertrike is its substantial hump tank in the middle section, serving as a transformative component. When adorned, the bike exudes a sporty demeanor akin to a high-performance motorcycle. However, with the removal of the hump, it transforms into a sleek and comfortable scooter. The aesthetic appeal is enhanced by the fusion of natural black carbon fiber and polished copper adorning its sides.

This versatile scooter offers riders the choice between two distinctive modes – Sport and Urban. Opting for the Sport mode positions the rider in a manner reminiscent of a traditional motorcycle, with a slightly forward-leaning body and legs. Conversely, the Urban mode, designed for a more relaxed scooter experience, shifts the body position slightly towards the rear.

The Onyx Supertrike rolls on wheels fitted with 200/50-R17 tires, boasting a diameter of 17 inches. This configuration complements the robust 400 cc engine nestled within its frame. The Supertrike's reported maximum speed of 150 kph (93.21 mph) underscores its prowess on the open road. The hybrid powertrain is a marriage of a 400 cc conventional combustion engine and an electric motor generating 60 PS (45 kW) of power and 57 Nm of torque, achieving a fuel consumption rate of 2 litres/100 km.
The Supertrike's eco-friendly credentials shine through when operating solely on electric power, covering an impressive distance of 30 km (18.64 miles) on a single battery charge. For longer journeys, the conventional gasoline engine in the tank extends the range to an impressive 500 km (310.69 miles). Peugeot's Onyx Supertrike not only captivates with its striking design but also exemplifies the brand's commitment to innovation and eco-conscious mobility solutions.
