Designed at Toyota's Calty Design Research studio in California, the FT stands for "Future Toyota" and "1" is an expression of the primary. Kevin Hunter, president of Toyota's Calty Design Research said that the FT-1 is a symbol of an exciting new chapter for Toyota's global design.

"The sports car is a driving expression in its purest form. As a car enthusiast himself, this is the kind of project that we dreamed of doing it. This provocative concept really captures the passion, spirit and energy of the Toyota, we are growing into and realize the emotional elements and the performance of the Toyota that will imprint on the future design," he said further.

Uniquely, this car project began two years ago that was originally designed by Calty not for the real world, but rather for the Sony PlayStation game Gran Turismo 6 (GT6), and later FT-1 jump of the 'virtual' to the real world in Detroit..

Physically, the line design of the sport car is quite pleasant to look at. Sharp lines flow design seem to flow up to the stern. Unfortunately, Toyota did not explain what was engine that installed on the FT-1 and how's its ability.

The coupe concept has a long snout and radiating lines of the curves shaped race car design. A pair of large air intake and large spout impression muscular fenders and sharp highlight both headlights.

The stern design is equally sexy, where sculpted flowing, featuring air diffuser, a pair of exhaust tip, and active wing. While the cockpit is made ergonomics, where the driver sits low, and the steering wheel inspired by the F1 racing car, head-up display that projects vital information onto windshield. Pillar-A is placed as far as possible to the rear to provide better visibility.

"Akio Toyoda challenged designers to create cars that spark emotions... those cars that makes them say: I want it... I have to drive it. His message is simple...make the coolest," he said later.
He also admitted his team was greatly inspired by a Toyota sports car in the past, especially the Toyota Supra and 2000GT. FT-1 means Future Toyota, and the number "1" means "ultimate". The rear wheel drive sports car is designed to be ready to compete in the circuit.. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | TOYOTA | NAIAS | AUTOBLOG]
