4 Yamaha Electric Motorcycle prototypes

Finally, alternative energy use in motor vehicles especially motorcycles has been awakening Yamaha as one of Japan's leading motorcycle manufacturers to start making electric-powered motorcycles.

By utilizing a prestigious automotive event like the 43rd Tokyo Motor Show (TMS) 2013 to be held at the Tokyo Big Sight from November 22 (Fri.) to December 1 (Sun.) (General Public Days from November 23), Yamaha will introduce their new electric motorcycle prototypes,

1. EVINO
EVINO a scooter that offers comfort and functionality required for short distance travel. Will be sold at affordable prices, so that consumers can easily get this electric scooter. This electric bike has the dimensions L × W × H = 1,675 × 645 × 1,005 mm.

EVINO electric scooter is designed based on Yamaha Vino, a modern retro scooter. EVINO offer environmentally friendly performance, complemented by subtle acceleration of the motor has been properly controlled.

Supported by a brushless DC motor and lithium-ion batteries. The possibility of the battery will be charged separately from the price of the motorcycle. And EVINO will use regenerative braking to extend battery charging.

2. EKIDS
As for the EKIDS is an electric dirt bike designed to be used as a learning tool motorcycle for children. This bike will be designed with easy controls, and comfortable for the children when learning to drive. This electric bike has the dimensions L × W × H = 1,245 × 575 × 715 mm.

And EKIDS also supported by a brushless DC motor and lithium-ion batteries. Where the battery will most likely be charged separately from the price of the vehicle. No technical details were released for this prototype. EKIDS will also use the of EVINO's modulation unit and the electronic controller is programmed to offer easiness for children.

3. PES 1
The next prototype is an electric motorcycle with the theme of streetbike and coded as PES 1 which is a continuation of the Passion, Electric and Street. This electric bike has the dimensions L × W × H = 1,918 × 640 × 1,000 mm, and weighs less than 220 lbs (100 kg).

This bike uses a lithium-ion battery to drive a DC brushless electric motor. Engine power source is named "Yamaha Smart Power Module" and placed in the monocoque frame. One of the innovative features in this type of e-motorcycle is a new transmission system that can be moved between manual and automatic.

4. PED 1
The next prototype is an electric motorcycle with the theme of dirt bike and called PED 1 which is a continuation of the Passion, Electric and Dirt. This electric bike has the dimensions L × W × H = 1,900 × 758 × 1,205 mm, and weighs less than 187 lbs (85 kg).

Just as the PES 1 prototype above, this bike uses a lithium-ion battery to drive a DC brushless electric motor.
