10 World's Largest Helicopters (Part-2)

Conflicts and disasters are not always considered to be something bad. But there are positive things behind it, which triggers the development for better technology. One of them in terms of technological development of air transport, such as the helicoptery, hybrid motorcycles, etc.

5. Sikorsky CH-53E Super Stallion
Super Stallion is now the largest and heaviest helicopter which owned by the U.S. military. With internal load reached 13,600 kg and 14,500 kg load or external. Sikorsky CH-53E Super Stallion is the only helicopter that can lift the 155 mm Howitzer gun complete with crew and ammunition. Its powered by three General Electric T64-GE-416/416A turboshaft engines, helicopter reaches 30.2 meters long with a blades diameter of 24 meter. The maximum load that can be carried during take-off is 33.3 tons.

4. Mil Mi-6
The Mil Mi-6 helicopter with NATO code name of "Hook" is said to have entered the production process in 1960, a total of 860 units have been built until 1981. Mi-6 is the world's largest operational helicopter and the first the Soviet Union turboshaft helicopter. Mi-6 has won the Sikorsky trophy in 1961 as the first helicopter has the flying speed over 300 kph. Powered by two Soloviev D-25V turboshaft engines.

The helicopter propeller diameter is 35 m and 33.18 meters long. Mi-6 able to carry a maximum take-off weight of 42.5 tons with an internal capacity of 12 tons of cargo compartment and also has capacity of 90 passengers or 70 airborne troops.

3. Mil Mi-10 

The helicopter is developed in 1962 and based by Mi-6. Mil Mi-10 has a maximum take-off weight of 43.7 tons. Although the load he was carrying was not much different from the Mil Mi-6, the "Harke" (Code name of NATO) has a loading bay on the platform to 15,000 kgs. Mi-6 and Mi-10 has the same engine.

Transmissions, hydraulic systems, and propeller systems, is designed primarily for the passengers accommodation, and can carry very heavy cargo. Mi-10 has the external fuel tank that big and wide, has four-legged with an enlarged landing gear allows the helicopter can carry large cargo.

2. Mil Mi-26 

Though not the largest in the history of helicopters, Mi-26 (Halo, code name of NATO) is a powerful helicopter ever produced. Introduced in 1983 and still being produced. Mi-26 is driven by two Lotarev D-136 turboshaft engines and has a maximum take-off weight of 56,000 kgs. It can also carry over 20 tons to the default distance of 800 kilometers.

Mi-26 has a standard crew of four people, including the pilot, copilot, navigator, and flight engineer. Side cockpit window was bulging created fatherly improve the eyesight. Three cameras were installed to allow observation of the load.

1. Mil Mi-12 

The first ranked of largest helicopter was a Russian-made with unusual shapes. Although the Mil Mi-12 was never produced, but it has been made two units as prototype.
