The Urban Electric Scooter Concept

The Austrian motorcycle manufacturer, KTM is increasingly confident in developing electric powered vehicle technology. KTM has announced a research note on KTM E-Speed is their future electric scooter products. E-Speed will use the same battery of Freeride E, another KTM's electric motorcycle concept, but this electric scooter is projected to be used more in urban than for off road like the Freeride E.

As reported by Motorcycle.com, Wednesday (04/24/2013) E-Speed electric scooter has been first introduced in the Tokyo Motor Show 2013 automotive arena. E-Speed is the second model of KTM's electric motorcycle concept that offered after the Freeride E.

E-Speed electric scooter uses liquid-cooled permanent-magnet synchronous motor that can generate power of 14.75 hp with a maximum torque of 26.6 lb-ft (35.9 Nm) to drive the rear wheel via a belt drive. More than enough for an electric scooter and even exceed the standards of conventional machines. However, this power is much smaller than the Freeride-E which can generate power up to 29.5 hp.

Based on technology used in KTM’s Freeride E off-road electric motorcycle concept, the E-Speed’s electricity is stored in a package of cutting-edge lithium-ion batteries with a capacity of 4.36 kWh. Where it only takes about 2 hours to fully recharge the battery on a regular 220V socket.

This electric scooter capable of traveling at a maximum speed of 85.3 kph (53 mph) with a range reaching distance of 59.5 km (36.97 miles). KTM motorcycle manufacturer has just announced to bring electric scooter models, E-Speed soon go into production lines. This electric scooter is planned to hit the European market in 2015, while the Freeride E on 2014.
KTM decision to bring an electric scooter E-Speed is, as well as a very positive response from the E-Speed introduction in Tokyo, and the high confidence that the pollution-free electric motorcycle will achieve success in the future. KTM also said, E-Speed is an interpretation of a pollution-free vehicles that are used in the city without sacrificing the sporty design of the KTM genes. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | KTM | ASPHALT & RUBBER]
