It turns out Rats can cough

Did you know that rats can cough. Recent research has shown that mice can also be used as a trial media against cough. Mice are often used in research to develop new drugs that will be exploited by human.

The animal response is also similar to humans. For example, mice grimacing while in pain. The same response on human. The experiments were conducted to analyze the mouse faces could help the new painkiller test before tested on humans.

Then, can rats cough because each voice may not be heard properly. To answer this mystery, scientists at Guangzhou Medical College, China, spraying capsaicin mist, the spicy chili molecules in 40 rats. Previous rodent is placed in a machine called the plethysmograph, a device that is used to measure changes in body volume, to detect the moving air in and out of the rat.

The researchers also listen to the sound of rats through a mini microphone and monitor the movement of their bodies. The mice make a variety of sounds such as sniffing, grinding, scratching their nose, and shook their heads. Among these voices, the scientists then identified the sound of explosions that coincide with head shaking, jerking stomach, and mouth open so similar to the cough movement in humans.

As quoted by LiveScience, when given drugs such as codeine cough suppressants, cough rats decreased dramatically. Capsaicin given before the experiment also helps suppress coughing. This material possibility of subjecting rat nerve. These findings suggest that mice can be used in experiments to search for new drugs against cough.

Recently scientists have also discovered that mice can sing the melody ultrasonic even laugh when tickled. They published these findings in detail in PLoS ONE, an online journal some time ago. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | LIVESCIENCE | SEPTI | PIKIRAN RAKYAT 01082013]
