British student found a way to stop the worm infection

Some students from a school in Manchester, England, found a new way to stop the spread of worm infections. They work closely with scientists at the University of Manchester to research worm infection that affects an estimated one billion people around the world.

All 29 elementary school students from Trinity Church of England High School in Hulme was conducting experiments for eight weeks with researchers from the Institute of Inflammation and Repair at the University of Manchester. They studied the development of the eggs of human intestinal worms that infect it.

Students learn how the worm eggs infecting children throughout the world. The worm eggs hatch in the intestine and cause malnutrition and disease. The infection can make children lose their appetite, fatigue, and nausea. In the experiment, the students added a variety of substances on worm eggs to try to stop the eggs grow into worms.

They found that clove oil, which is easily available in many areas where helminth infections are common, can stop the growth of eggs by 50 percent. That means the potential of clove oil to natural medicine and reduce the spread of worm infections.
