An ancient Javanese Rice grains found

Yogyakarta Archaeological Center (Balai Arkeologi Yogyakarta) claims to find an ancient rice grain that is expected come from the 9th century on the slopes of Mount Sindoro, Temanggung - Central Java. Chairman of the Institute for Research and Community Empowerment (Lembaga Penelitian dan Pemberdayaan Masyarakat/LPPM) General Soedirman University, Totok Agung, said the rice grains were found by the Yogyakarta Archaeological Center of the possibility of a rice only in Java. "I guess it kind of of javanicus rice sub-species," he said.

He said further, the type of rice was very tasty and fragrant. The rice has a lot of fur. Only, its cropping period is quite long, about 6-8 months. He said, this rice can still be found in rural areas with traditional agriculture. According to him, previously there are rice which is called paddy grendeng.
