The Online radio, originated from a sound file

Today listening to music or a variety of programs through radio broadcasts online is not that surprising, considering now online radio continue to emerge and grow until the number becomes very much. But did you know that it was started from a document that containing sound recordings.

Initial principle of the online radio emerged since the mid-1980s, when sending sound files through the Internet network could have done. These are then used by Carl Malamud, founder of the Internet Multicasting Service (IMS), to launch internet radio broadcasts in 1993.

Initially, his weekly radio streaming program was not in the live broadcast. Listeners should first download the document that contains a voice recording, and then play it on their respective devices. Given the large storage capacity and computing power is still very limited on that time, which is download and play sound files at 30 megabytes was a problem itself. Moreover, the speed of the consumer modem in that time is the highest of only 28 kbps. So it is not surprising, if the streaming radio audience is limited, usually corporate or university.

Right on 1994 New Year's Eve, Malamud update his program with new titled, Internet Talk Radio, which uses streaming technology. This technology compresses the data when it was about to be sent, and decompress when the data arrives at the receiving device. Therefore, the data transferred is smaller, faster delivery. However, unfortunately, the quality of sound that comes out must be sacrificed. But these improvements can increase the number of listeners.

The radio programs are displayed also increasingly diverse. Not only interviews with the famous people, but also the live broadcast important events, such as the U.S. Congress meeting. Applications for listeners began to emerge, one of the most widely used is the Real Audio from Real Networks.

Unfortunately, due to funding constraints, Malamud closing the IMS in 1996, which automatically stops the online radio broadcast as well. The closure appears to be done at the wrong time, because that's when it began popping up online radio.

Has now emerged thousands of online radio. There is a common theme, some are more specialized in certain themes. For example, BlackBeat, a special online radio that plays hip hop music, Flo Radio, which plays dance music and ChristianRock.net, specifically playing Christian rock song nuanced.

To facilitate listeners choose radio channel, emerging aggregator site that collects online radio streaming channels around the world in a single directory, such as Bunch Radio, iHeartRadio, or Shoutcast. Because of these aggregators are usually grouped by area of the country online radio, listeners in one country can more easily find and listen to radio broadcasts across the country. This service is generally equipped with an application for mobile devices, so that Internet radio can be accessed directly by pressing the button multiple times or smart phone and tablet screens. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | RATNANINGASIH | KORAN TEMPO 4233]
