4. Porsche 918 Spyder
When Porsche unveiled the 918 Spyder concept at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show we were all in amazement. Within that amazement was a sense of a sense of pessimism, as we were unsure exactly how this future successor to the Carrera GT would look and run in the real world. We all know that manufacturers have a habit of “overestimating” its cars at these shows, to put it nicely.
All of this technology pushes this V-8 to an impressive 580 hp at 8,500 rpm and 500 Nm (368 lb-ft) of torque. That power is stout, to say the least, but the 918 Spyder goes beyond that by adding in a pair of electric motors – one powering the front axle and one on the rear – that pump out 85 kW (114 hp) and 95 kW (127 hp), respectively. While adding the horsepower up directly nets you a grand total of 821 hp, you have to remember that these hybrid systems don’t add up that way. This setup gives the 918 a total of 795 hp to play with and 780 Nm (575 lb-ft) of torque.
