The study titled Cardiff University Otter Project shows that modern chemical thought to trigger the alarming phenomenon called "organs wither". Beaver sexual organ in this case to "wither", whereas aquatic mammals under study was in healthy condition.

Laboratory analysis showed the decreasing size of the penis bone (baculum) in the male beaver. Decrease the size of the penis bone in turn affects the size of the sexual organ so that it becomes smaller.

The scientists said the presence of chemical bullies endocrine hormones, known as disruptors hormone, the cause of these disorders. "We were surprised to see baculum weight," said Elizabeth Chadwick, Cardiff University Otter Project Manager, on Monday, February 25, 2012. "It certainly needs to be investigated further."

The scientists team worried about a similar phenomenon also began to afflict humans. It is seen from the increasing number of boys are born with undescended testicles, a sexual organs disorder, and low sperm count. Human reproductive health disorders also allegedly caused by the presence of hormonal disruptors.

Gwynne Lyons, director of the Chemicals, Health and Environment Monitoring (CHEM) Trust, said the research shows the negative effects of pollutants on the reproductive health of individual males or males, "If you want to protect the wildlife, we need good information about the reproductive health of key species , " she said.

In the 1970s the otter population in the UK dropped dramatically. High levels of pollutants in beaver habitat rivers, blamed for the incident. Environment Agency revealed a decrease in pollutants believed to gradually increase again otter population.
