Knowing the Genes that Trigger Stress and Depression

Approximately 80 percent of human diseases are psychosomatic illness or mental illness is rooted in stress that occurs in a person. Stress occurs when people do not get what they want. Due to stress, tension was high in the cells through the role of a specific gene so that the cells become exhausted and lose stamina.

Lecturer and researcher in molecular biology and psycho-genomics, Tauhid Nur Azhar said that Hans Selye's theory of stress include hormonal imbalance called psychoneuroimmunology (PNI). Changes in psychological state will encourage hormonal changes marked increase in ACTH and cortisol, which is a marker of stress.

Increasing these hormones would produce a multiplier effect, including the immune system or the body's immunological response and autonomic sympathetic and parasympathetic nerves. Changes in sympathetic and parasympathetic responses can also result in chronic degenerative disorders such as diabetes mellitus and coronary heart disease," says Tauhid.

This gene discovery is done in a way to scan the entire genome in tissue samples from 21 people diagnosed die from depression and compared them with 18 people diagnosed with depression free. The result is, one gene called MKP-1 increased two-fold increase in brain tissue depressed individuals.

Expert Council of Indonesian Muslim Intellectuals Association (Ikatan Cendikiawan Muslim Indonesia / ICMI), Hanny Rono Sulistyo said, that the introduction of a more religious nature of the application well in everyday life will prevent stress and makes a person healthier.

"People often complain and stress will cause changes in the functions of the cell body. Therefore, a lot of people complain, physical and psychological health is not optimal. Complaining is an expression of disappointment and not sincere form of the provision of Allah," he said.

This post has been an eye opener for me...as an artist I spend many "happy" hours in the studio. This would explain why I also fight depression 24/7 even at my happiest. Been off medications now for three months as have been on antidepressant for just over 15 years. It took three months to ween my self off them under strict supervision. I still seek things to do to fight depression but without the side effects of the drugs.

The conflict between happiness and sadness are the same when you analyze them in depth, as to reach both state of mind in life take the same path as far as decision making. Then it's up to you on how YOU accept ones decision. Also the fear of success can lead to feeling depressed is another study I recently read about... life in general throws us many curve balls in the end and it's up to us how we handle it.
