The Alfa Romeo 4C will be designed and produced in the Maserati plant in Modena in a limited run of 2,000. The 4C name harkens to Alfa Romeo 8C and 6C models of the 1930s and 1940s, built for both racing and road. It incorporates supercar technologies combined with those of the company's latest standard models.

The exterior of the 4C looks back to a number of previous Alfa designs with particular attention to the 8C Competizione and 33 Stradale. Like the Stradale, the 4C has a compact, powerful design that forms a tight, aerodynamic envelope for the engineering inside. The chassis is a carbon fiber structure with front and rear aluminum crash boxes, plus a hybrid steel and aluminum rear structure. Altogether, this produces a car with a strong downforce coefficient for stability at high speed.

This stability is important because the Alfa Romeo 4C weighs in at less than 850 kg (1874 lb), giving it a power to weight ratio in the supercar class of 4 kg/hp. It has dimensions of 4,000 mm (length), 2,000 mm (width), and 1.180 mm (height) and 2.400 mm wheelbase.

The Alfa Romeo 4C carrying a 4-cylinder, 1.75-liter turbo petrol engine currently found in the Quadrifoglio Verde version of the Giulietta. It has direct fuel injection, dual continuous variable valve timing, a turbocharger and a scavenging control system to remove any turbo lag. It puts out 237 bhp (178 Nm) for a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph) and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in under five seconds.

The gearbox is a Twin Clutch Transmission automatic. The 4C will also debut the company’s new Race mode for its Alfa DNA drive selector system. Continuing to offer the three existing driver selectable settings, Dynamic, Natural, and All Weather, the Italian manufacturer says the new Race mode function "is designed to enhance the driving experience on a race track even further".
At the front is a high double wishbone suspension and McPherson at the rear. The Alfa Romeo 4C will be available for purchase later this year. No price has been announced as yet. The 83rd International Motor Show in Geneva runs March 5 to March 17, 2013. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | GIZMAG | BORNRICH | DIH | PIKIRAN RAKYAT 15022013]
