5 Cars With the Best Safety Systems

Automobile manufacturers in developing today's motor vehicle is not only the aspect of engine performance, the modern body design, or interior design elegant posh cabin. Car manufacturers are also thinking how appropriate technologies to improve the safety of the driver and passenger vehicles.

Moreover, the accident data show a tendency to increase. Not only in Indonesia, but also in the United States (U.S.). On average, every 16 minutes in case of traffic accidents in the U.S.. To reduce the impact of the crash, was born a number of advanced technology-based electronics, such as Autolock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD).

Along with the advancement of technology, now the technology is applicable to urban cars. Forbes released a list of five small car being assessed to meet safety standards. Based on the hit-test Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

In a crash test, there are some aspects of security that must be met from the cars, ranging from the function of seat belts, airbags, until the strength of the material car body material to withstand impact. Here's the full list:

1. AUDI A3

In its last model year before a complete redesign, the 2013 Audi A3 betrays its age mostly in its lack of noise suppression and outdated infotainment offerings. But it remains a stylish, luxurious compact hatchback that handles well, conveys the prestige of the four-ringed badge, and offers one option none of its competitors do: a fuel-efficient turbodiesel engine.

Verano holds 2,400 cc Ecotec engine paired with a 6 speed automatic transmission capable of producing 117 hp and maximum torque of 230 Nm.

But give Buick engineers credit for treating noise, vibration, and harshness as the evil troika it is. Cavities have been stuffed with sound-deadening material, both sides of the dash are insulated, the windshield and side glass are laminated, and a set of underbody panels blocks rain sizzle and tread noise. Five tuned chambers subdue the engine’s induction roar.

The machine to achieve speeds of 100 km/h from a standstill takes just 8 seconds. While fuel consumption reached 13.18 km/liters on the highway route.

3. CHEVRORET CRUZE

Just like the Buick Verano, Chevrolet Cruze also features at least 10 airbags, including above for rear passengers, and airbags to protect the knees in the front. Cruze has automatic system to seek help in case of accident.

One of the first things you notice about the Chevrolet Cruze is that you notice it. Cruze is a compact sedan that rises above the anonymity that previously plagued the affordable car segment thanks to its bold design and pleasing proportions.

4. CHEVROLET SONIC

Chevrolet Sonic models has advanced features for a compact car. The car below grade Cruze is equipped with 10 airbags, including roof to protect passengers in the rear and front passenger knee protection. Sonic also has an automated system to seek help in case of accident.

Both body-styles are available in a single trim level, the LTZ, which in the Thai market is the highest specification model. The successor to the Aveo is powered by a 1.4 litre Ecotec VVT four-cylinder mill, with 99 hp at 6,000 rpm and 130 Nm at 4,000 rpm for numbers.

The engine is paired to a six-speed auto transmission, which features a toggle switch gear shifter located on the gearknob in much the same fashion as that found on the third-gen Ford Focus.

It’s all good enough to give the Sonic a 0-100 km/h time of 12.9 seconds and a 175 km/h top speed. Some other numbers – the sedan measures in at 4.4 metres long, while the hatch stretches the tape 4.09 metres. Width and height are the same for both, these being 1,735 mm and 1,517 mm respectively.

5. CHEVROLET VOLT

Step inside the 2013 Volt, lay witness to its smart interior, and you’ll immediately feel the inherent charm of its design. Admittedly it’s more of a tickle than a punch to the gut, but it’s impressive nonetheless. There is an undeniably cutting-edge vibe to the dash and center console – itself a skyward-stretching, towering obelisk of digital wonder. Electric powered car has many safety features. For safety features, there is a knee airbag on the front passenger, as well as automated systems to seek help in case of accident.

Powered by electric motor, the Chevrolet Volt is claimed to be able to travel a distance of 64 kilometers. Efficiency combined fuel consumption equal to 40 km/liter. New for 2013 on the Volt is an EPA estimated all-electric range of 38 miles (61.16 km), which proved to be accurate, as the gas engine kicked in at just under 40 miles (64.37 km) of all highway driving.

The transition between electricity and gasoline is seamless, a positive point for the Volt, as the car seems to try and disguise what exactly is going on under its sheet metal. Rarely does the small 1.4-liter gas unit ever muster much of a roar while cruising, helping to give a smooth, confident, almost calming demeanor to the Volt.
