Generally, doctors wear white clothes as a symbol of cleanliness. Except at the time had operated on patient, they wear green or blue. Why is that?
According to Today's Surgical Nurse in 1998, the use of color is likely began in the early 20th century, with the goal of helping doctors vision during surgery. The green color helps the doctors to see better for two reasons, namely
First, look at the blue or green color can refresh doctors vision from the red things, such as organs and blood of patients during surgery. That's because the brain interprets colors relative to other colors, if the surgeon looking at something red or pink, it will be familiar with these colors so that vision impaired. Red signal in the brain will fade. It can be difficult for doctors to see organs and tissues of the human body. Meanwhile, if the doctor saw something green or blue from time to time, he can make his eyes more sensitive to variations in the color red.
Second, because the doctors vision continuously focused on the red colored patient's organ, where the red color can cause green colored optical illusion on the white colored surface and certainly can be annoying. This optical illusion appears when doctors shifted their gaze from the red colored body tissue to something white. Green colored optical illusion of the patient's internal organs will appear on the white colored background. This optical illusion occurs because white color has all the spectrum of colors, including green and red color. However, if the doctor saw the green or blue colored clothes and not white, the illusion that interfere would be the right blending with the color of clothes and not be a distraction.
