(Back to Part-1.)
Continuing the
discussion of tough and strong all-terrain vehicles that have been given
in the previous section. So on this occasion I will also add very
little to the vehicle that has a pure military or combat vehicle specifications.
These military or civilian vehicles are made to go through the difficult terrain traversed by usual vehicles with certain specifications. Here is a row of those vehicles,
5. Paramaount Marauder
The military vehicle that weighs ten tons was designed by automotive manufacturers from South African, Paramount Group.
This vehicle successfully beat the Hummer in a test explosion. From the
results of these trials where the Hummer was broken into pieces by
seven pounds of plastic explosives, but the Paramount Marauder almost standing intact.

Paramount Marauder is powered by a powerful 6-cylinder turbo-diesel engine coupled to a semi-automatic transmission. The engine delivers 221 hp of power and 801Nm torque.

The
vehicle can be fitted with light and medium-calibre machine guns and
cannon weapon installations, mortar firing platforms and missile
launchers. The stowage bins fitted on the vehicle will allow it to
perform extensive missions autonomously.
6. HMMWV (HUMVEE)
Wherever you see American troops around the world, you see HMMWVs (Humvees) in action. Even around the U.S., in natural disasters such as floods, hurricanes and tornadoes, you'll see HMMWVs when the National Guard is at work.
Although the HMMWV has been in production since 1985, its design is still as revolutionary today as it was when engineers began initial concepts in 1979. The final design met military requirements to replace numerous types of aged vehicles and to keep up with swift moving tanks. The Army wanted durability, mobility and reliability. The unique geometry of the truck provides these qualities. No other light tactical vehicle in the world approaches the HMMWV's capabilities or cost effectiveness.
oduced.
The HMMWV is a dynamic vehicle with changes and improvements
continually added. For instance, thorough corrosion resistance has been
added and most components have been upgraded, including the move to a
larger 6.5-litre diesel engine. From day one, system developers have
continually found new users for the flexible HMMWV. Initially introduced
with a 1½-ton payload capacity, increased payload requirements to carry
various systems have led to Expanded Capacity Vehicles with payloads up
to 5,100 lbs (1,900 kg). and gross vehicle weight rating (GVW) up to 12,100 lbs (4,500 kg).
As
we move well into the 21st century, the workhorse HMMWV is being called
on to carry new sophisticated communications and weapons systems. The
ongoing story of this rugged truck will continue to unfold as new users
are found and new missions require its use.
7. Oshkosh M-ATV
The Oshkosh M-ATV is an MRAP (Mine Resistant Ambush Protected) vehicle developed by the Oshkosh Corporation, Wisconsin. It is designed to provide the same levels of protection as the larger and heavier previous MRAPs but with improved mobility and it is intended to replace M1114 HMMWVs.
The
Oshkosh M-ATV is a 4×4 chassis vehicle fitted with a Caterpillar C7
370hp engine with an Allison 3500 SP transmission and Marmon Herrington
transfer case. It also features a rugged, reliable non-developmental
powertrain, providing the vehicle quickness to cross mountainous
terrain.
The M-ATV is based on the Oshkosh medium tactical vehicle replacement (MTVR) platform and is fitted with patented TAK-4 independent suspension system for utmost mobility and survivability. The Oshkosh M-ATV has seating for four passengers and one gunner. The vehicle can reach a maximum speed of 65mph (105kph) with operational cruising about 320 miles (515 km). The gross vehicle curb weight is less than 25,000lb (11,340kg) with a maximum payload of 4,000lb (1,814kg).
Oshkosh Defense and
Plasan North America worked together to develop the M-ATV armour system,
which comprises a variety of high-strength materials, including ceramic
composite armour. It features EFP (explosively formed penetrator)
armour while maintaining a full payload. The commonality between the
armour and the parts allows the vehicle to be repaired in the theatre.
