Conquering the Neck and Back Pain

The neck and back pain can happen to anyone. At the office a lot of sitting, lingering while continuing to look at a computer monitor or laptop with an improper sitting position. Blue-collar workers who daily lift heavy weights on the shoulders or back can also be affected by this disease. Even sleep (mattresses that do not fit can cause pain). If you are affected by this disease, which is present then laments, moaning, screaming, or grimacing in pain.Absent or truant from work is not an impossible thing.

"Survey of Health in the United States, the incidence of neck and back pain occurred more (21 percent) compared to the pain in other joints," said Dr. Anitta ES. Paul from Medical Rehabilitation Installation of Persahabatan Hospital, Jakarta. She spoke on October 8, 2012 in "Get Up and Win Against Joint Pain" seminar held in the halls of the Persahabatan Hospital Jakarta. In America, Anitta continued, back pain is the second leading cause of absenteeism after respiratory infections. Even pain problems may be the cause of absence from work routine.

Anitta explains that pain is a subjective perception in the form of an unpleasant sensation and emotional experience associated with the tissue damage. Because it is a subjective perception, perceived response varies between one person and another. The perception of pain can be burning, sharp, stabbing, or aching. "Pain arises in response to the body's tissues are injured," she said.

Cases of back and neck pain is more common in women, especially in the age of 45-64 years. Even so, that does not mean it did not happen the second disturbance at an older age or younger. Some reports say that back pain experienced teenager.

Most causes of neck pain and lower back are the body mechanical problems (coordination of muscles, skeleton, joints and nervous system, as well as muscle injury) such as lifting something too much and clamping nerves. The pain can also be triggered by arthritis, bone calcification, narrowing of the spinal canal and spinal aka scoliosis curve. Other factors associated with pain are obesity, smoking, duration of work with the hands above shoulder level, and mental stress. To determine the cause of pain and diagnosis, according Anitta, a careful examination is required. That's when elaboration is done, such as finding out the symptoms, type of pain, when it began to be felt, and mengulik factors are suspected to be the originator.

Treatment of neck pain and lower back, Anitta explained, depends on the cause. At the beginning of therapy, treatment given pain medications and anti-inflammatory. After that, treatment modalities followed by the provision of physical therapy aimed at reducing pain and inflammation resolve. In the acute phase, patients can receive laser therapy, cold therapy (cryotherapy), or electrical stimulation. For those who are not strong stomach with medicine, pain reliever ointment could be an option.

American research shows that as many as 84 percent of patients with neck and back pain to find a doctor or health care workers, and 11.6 percent of them underwent surgery. From patients to physicians, about 75-85 percent of successfully treated with non-surgical treatment.

In addition to medicine, fitness room with aerobic exercise was shown to reduce the risk of neck and back pain and help prevent relapse. Exercises can be done by walking, running, biking, or swimming.

In the same seminar, Dr. Tribowo T. Ginting, a psychiatrist of Persahabatan Hospital, introduced hypnotherapy for joint pain. According to him, hypnosis will stimulate the brain to release endorphins and neurotransmitters that enhance mood ensefalin that can affect a person in receipt of sickness. On that occasion, four patients with pain hypnotized and implanted the suggestion that the pain is reduced and improved.
