The First SUV from Maserati

Maserati is usually synonymous with the pretty strong supercar that can be driven at high speed. But this time for the first time they made a SUV type vehicle. Maserati's first SUV called by the name of Levante. This Italian car is the production version of Maserati's Kubang SUV concept, which saw at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show.

There’s history behind the word "Levante," as it’s the street in Bologna, Italy (Via Emilia Levante, to be precise) where the Maserati brothers reportedly "dreamt of the company that today bears its name." This car will be produced in the United States (U.S.) using factory Chrysler Group now has belonged to Fiat. Maserati said that the sport luxury SUV segment is the natural direction for the trident brand to go to, "enlarge its product range and strengthen its presence in the sport luxury market." Or to fill its coffers to make its cars better, much like what Porsche (smartly) did with the Cayenne.

Levante are planned to be marketed to the public in 2014 will share the base with the Jeep Grand Cherokee and while no specifications were released at the Paris Motor Show, the Maserati SUV will get a range of diesel and petrol engines, one of which might be the twin-turbo, 298 kW, V6 engine touted for the Ghibli sedan.

Production plans, in a year Maserati will build 20,000 to 25,000 units Levante. The Fiat subsidiary, which announced the names Thursday September 27, 2012 at the Paris Auto Show, is counting on the two new models to help boost the company's global sales to 50,000 units by 2015 from 6,150 last year.

Levante to be one of the Maserati's new cars that will be displayed on the 2012 Paris Auto Show (from Sept. 27 through Oct. 14, 2012) beside their midsize sedan Ghibli and four-door flagship large sedan Quattroporte. *** [DIH | MOTOR TREND | PIKIRAN RAKYAT 05102012]
