Scientists from Liverpool John Moores University and The Royal Veterinary College, UK, examined the gouldian finches population in Australia. From the test results found finches with a red head has an aggressive nature.

Meanwhile, the black-headed finches are more courageous and take more risks. The findings are published in the journal Animal Behaviour. "The color of gouldian finches feathers indicated their tactics and behavior," said study leader, Leah Williams. She said the research also shows the black-headed finches act as a "leader" in the group.

Williams said all the olive-brown finches during the early hatched. A few months later they get a different color.

To test the aggressiveness, the research team prepare meals for the two-finches who were hungry. A red-headed finches, another a black head. But the food was put in place that is filled only by one bird.

Shortly after the food is placed, a red-headed finches suddenly grabbed. It did not hesitate to try to displace the black head finches and threatening in a way showing off its beak.

Personality "fiery" red head finches than a black-headed fellow.

"Black-headed finches pick out of the way and avoid a conflict with a red head finches. Red head finches behavior indicates they are very aggressive," Williams said.

Williams said, the research team is now focused on finding out the relationship between the color of the head of the finches and their personalities. "Does the color of the head that affect their personality or vice versa?" she said. *** [BBC NATURE | MAHARDIKA SATRIA HADI | KORAN TEMPO 3903]
