The First 9-Speed Transmission in the World

Efficient vehicles in fuel consumption is now a consumer demand that car manufacturers should be able to be met. Despite the car using a large capacity engine, it must be fuel efficient

To meet the demands of car manufacturers with its partner, component manufacturers perform a series of innovations. ZF Friedrichshafen AG is a German company who created the first 9-speed automatic transmission in the world.

As reported Egmcartech, this transmission can be used in a passenger car with front-wheel drive system. When compared with 6-speed transmission that is currently popular, 9-speed transmission ZF-made manufactured in Greenville, South Carolina, can save fuel consumption up to 16 percent.

Advantages of this new transmission technology not only that, because the ZF also claims the car can be more convenient. Even when traveling at 120 km/h, the engine can spin very smooth only 1,900 rpm. Compare with the 6-speed transmission that reaches 2,600 rpm at the same speed.

A number of major manufacturers such as Honda and Chrysler announced it was ready to put the transmission in their latest variant. Honda will put in some variants such as the Honda Odyssey, Honda Pilot, Acura MDX, and Acura TL sold in 2013. These four models each use a 3.5-liter and 3.7-liter V6 engine with torque 343 Nm and 366 Nm.

While Chrysler will put it on the Jeep Liberty models are assembled from the factory in 2013 in Southern California. The goal for the Liberty engine performance that have large capacity becomes more refined, with faster acceleration, and fuel usage can be streamlined. By saving fuel, meaning that the amount of carbon emissions released into the air a little more. Thus, a solution to meet the emission standards in the United States.

In addition to these two manufacturers, the plan Audi will apply to the model A8 sedan, Q7 SUV, and future models of Ay. While BMW will use the model of the 7 series sedan and the X6 SUV.

So far, the highest transmission technology used by the car manufacturer is 8-speed as in the BMW, Audi and Lexus.

For example, the use of such transmission (8-speed transmission) in the Lexus LS 460 with large-capacity machines can improve fuel efficiency. On luxury LS 460 sedan which has a V8 engine with capacity of 4,608 cc can generate 375 hp of power and 493 Nm of torque. Acceleration of 5.7 seconds was achieved enough to reach speeds of 100 km/h from rest. *** [OVI | PIKIRAN RAKYAT 20042012]
