Traffic Lights Originally From Lantern

The traffic light has now become mandatory devices in almost every crossroads. Its function is, of course, to regulate motor vehicle traffic and other road users.

However, traffic lights were invented long before the existence of a motor vehicle which was found in 1890. Is a British engineer named JP. Knight who created these traffic control devices in 1868. At that time, traffic lights Knight creation is still a red and green lanterns, which light up alternately.

The equipment was first placed in front of the British House, England. Its function is to set forth carriages and pedestrians with the help of the semaphore and the direction of the arrow as a pointer. Traffic lights Knight creation is then updated by several inventors, to use electrical energy.

Morgan’s traffic system included a caution signal
and served as a precursor to the electric signals
we use today. He eventually sold his automatic
three-way traffic system to General Electric.

The one who developed it was William Pots, which adds a yellow light in 1920. However, because it is still considered less effective, light creations Pots was updated again by a citizen of the United States, Garrett Augustus Morgan.

The idea started when Morgan witnessed an accident involving a car and horse-drawn carriage. At the traffic light creations, Morgan then refine them by providing a timer to turn the color of red light, yellow, and green at every intersection.

The results of Morgan's renewal is considered to give more security and comfort for road users, so that then patented in 1923 and became the early growth of traffic lights that we know today. *** [AK | PIKIRAN RAKYAT 22122011]
