Exceed the Speed of Light, Einstein's Theory Challenged

Dozens of scientists in two laboratories owned by the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) continue to pay attention to the way neutrino particles. Groups of particles along the 6.9-meter circle form was fired from the lab, located in the northwest city of Geneva, Swiss-French border. Whoosh ... faster than lightning, an underground neutrino down the aisle as far as 730 kilometers to arrive at the Laboratory Nazionali del Gran Sasso (LNGS), which lies in Italy. Particles that strike the film emulsion in this laboratory.

On Friday (23 September 2011), they announced a study that is part of the Opera experiment (Oscillation Project with Emulsion-Tracking Apparatus). The experiment started in 2008 and involved dozens of scientists developed countries was aimed at studying the properties of elementary particles called neutrino.

Instead of deepening the knowledge is about neutrinos, they actually found the fact that the particles are moving faster than light. If light and neutrinos released simultaneously from Geneva, neutrinos would be the winner, leave a light 20 feet behind him. This means that neutrinos can drag 8 kilometers per second faster than light. As a result, these findings destroy the thought of Albert Einstein.

Initially, this research becomes a rumor among researchers CERN. For more than a century, the physicists in the world to uphold the principle of Albert Einstein who claimed top speed of light as an owner in the universe.

This principle became the foundation of all knowledge as well as the pillar of modern physics. Start the theory of the creation of the universe, creation of the atomic bomb, to the mass-energy equivalence equation E = mc2 is famous for.

If neutrinos faster than light, physicists have to stick mostly to reorder the physical sciences. But the Nobel laureate grace Physics, Steven Weinberg, hastily expressed doubt. He asked for a scientific explanation to this finding. Understandably, the study of neutrinos requires very high accuracy rate and all should be exposed more clearly. "The claim without explanation at any time by someone claiming to maintain a garden fairy below but will be visible in the foggy dark night," he said.

Theoretical physicists from Arizona State University, Lawrance Krauss, said there was no reason not to include a scientific explanation in announcing the findings. Violate the principle of absolute speed of light like a suicide attempt if it did not have any hard evidence.

Physicists Opera, Dario Autiero, denied all allegations. According to him, the equipment used in these experiments is very adequate. This is evidenced by the small error rate that may be generated in the experiment.

Neutrino arrival time 60 nanoseconds faster than the speed of light has a degree of uncertainty of only 10 nano-seconds. Similarly, the time measurement process that involves high-accuracy GPS satellites, thus increasing accuracy.

But he did not rush to claim to have beat Einstein thought. Therefore, he along with other Opera physicists call these findings as an anomaly. Over the past 6 months, the group sought an explanation of this deviation, but to no avail. "We just handed me the facts, please do the interpretations of other physicists. Also an attempt to repeat this experiment we encourage and support," explains Autireo.

Some physicists seek compromise with this anomaly. Professor of cosmology and particle physics from Harvard University, Lisa Randall, assess the findings particles faster than light that does not mean messing Einstein's theory. According to him, this anomaly can be described using string theory, which revealed the existence of other dimensions than the three-dimensional space.

In string theory, neutrinos may have penetrated another dimension to find the shortest distance. The result, when calculated in the human dimension, as if the neutrinos move beyond the speed of light. Although string theory can explain this phenomenon, Randall hopes neutrino experiments must be repeated so that the results are inconclusive.

Meanwhile, the community of neutrino physics is still crowded thrash rules violator, a group of physicists from Fermilab's the United States, which began preparing a new experiment using the Main Injector Neutrino Oscillation equipment Search (Minos). In 2007, Minos experiment also sniff out the existence of neutrinos that move beyond the speed of light. But the findings were quickly denied because the accuracy of the equipment has not been accurate. Since then, the level of accuracy continues to be improved so that Minos could match the sophistication of the Opera and is expected to test the validity of neutrinos faster than light when operated in 2013. *** [ANTON WILLIAM | VARIOUS SOURCES | KORAN TEMPO 3661]
