Lately there are doubts about how certain high Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world located in Nepal and Tibet, the Chinese government-controlled areas.
Officials from the two countries disagree about the height of Everest. To be sure, the government of Nepal plans to re-measure the height of the mountain.
Everest is located in the Himalayas. During the height of Everest is believed to be about 8,848 meters. This is based on measurements in 1954. But the Chinese government considers high Everest is only 8,844 meters above sea level.
The difference occurs because, on the measurement of 1954, the height of Everest is measured to the dome of ice on top. While the Chinese government considers the highest stone is the peak, not including the snow-ice.
Now the government Nepat have advanced technology to measure the exact height of Everest. According to a spokesman for the government of Nepal, the mission of repeated measurements of the highest mountain in the world it will take as long as two years. Whatever the outcome, certainly Everest still holds the status as the world's highest mountain. As for the second highest mountain is K2 (Chogori), which lies on the border between Pakistan and China. 8,611 meters high.
The first time measured is the height of Mount Everest in 1856. None of those who dare to climb the peak until Edmund Hillary and Sherpa or his guide, Tenzing Norgay, did it in 1953.
