Italian researchers discovered the existence of a ring that circles the earth. The rings are composed of protons are negatively charged aliases antiproton, guarded by a magnetic field. In theory, antimatter could be used to fill the fuel rocket to the future.
Every day the Earth caught in the rain of charged particles from different parts of space. Most of these particles are trapped by the magnetic field in a donut-shaped double layer around the earth or so-called Van Allen Radiation Belts.
"The magnetic field like a rat trap that captures particles that roam in space," says particle physics researchers from CERN, Geneva, Rolf Landua.
Researchers have found a positively charged electron or positron in the structure of this donut. But satellite studies of cosmic particles made in Italy named PAMELA find the heavier antiprotons in the amount 2,000 times greater than the number of positrons at an altitude of 350-600 kilometers above the earth.
According to the research team members PAMELA, Alessandro Bruno, antiproton ring is the most abundant source of antimatter near the earth. This knowledge is useful as a human energy solution if they want to travel to distant places in space.
Antiprotons is known as one of the fuel booster rocket that is very efficient and environmentally friendly. "Rocket future could stop at this ring to refuel," said Bruno. *** [NEWSCIENTIST | ANTON WILLIAM | TEMPO 3615]
